Whats your start date? I'm starting on 15th July, and am almost counting the minutes...
22nd mate. I'm apprehensive tbh. Been doing the same job for 26 years so it's a bit of a leap of faith but I need a change and everyone associated with the railway seems to enjoy it. What's the worst that can happen?:D

I'm 12years in the same industry (not hard to guess which). Is it strange to feel excited about going completely outta my comfort zone and into a new challenge?

Do you know what tests are covered on assessment day 2?
Pretty sure Scotrail used to do a mechanical comprehension test, where did it go?
Many thanks for any information given.

On assessment day 2 you initially do a situational judgement test first. Its straight forward enough and don't over think it. Around 25 questions where you are giving the situation then told what action you have taken. You then answer if the action makes the situation better or worse.

You then do a concentration and reaction test where by you watch a screen for 30 minutes. A small grey box appears in the centre at random times and everytime it is black you press the button.

The next one is the observational assessment. A busy scene appears on your screen for 0.8 seconds and you then have to noted what's in it. Think there were maybe 12 to do. This for me was the hardest.

The last one is the coordination test. You guide a ball around a track a number of times using two joystick, which are highly sensitive.

All being well you will find out your results within 10-20 min. Its then onto the MMI interview. You are given 6 questions and write down a sentence for each. You are then interviewed about each question. I found this informal and much more relaxed than DMI, mainly due to knowing what you were going to be asked and could prepare for a short time before going into interview.

Worth noting as well that there is no pass/fail for the SJT alone, as this is used (at this stage - there are a few of these along the way) to allow the assessor/interviewer to tailor their questioning during the MMI.

More clear now, thanks very much indeed

Thank you.
Hi, I am also attending the assessment centre on the 18th of July. Excited and nervous at the same time

I'm glad some people are still finding out.
I was beginning to lose hope that I hadn't made it through the application.

Can anyone direct me to the best place to read up on Abellio Scotrail. I'm sure there must be more to it than just a simple Google search.

Sorry to hear that mate. The interviews are so hard to gauge how we’ve done. I thought I’d done quite well and he mentioned I should buy a bop it for the next stage etc at the end but I got an email this morning to say they can’t let me know until end of July as there’s loads still to interview so it’s going to be a long 4 weeks now waiting

I had the same email Fraz1, bit of a strange one but just thankful to still be in with a shout.

Sorry to hear that Jord as Fraz says it’s always difficult to judge these things. I’m in the same boat with respect to waiting till the end of July. So it’s not a “no thanks” just yet. Strange one.

Sorry to hear that Jord. I always try and keep an open mind. I certainly wouldn't like to play poker with the folk that do the interviews. They're always hard to read.

Sorry to hear some of you got bad news! Looks like they may not be wanting to say to much waiting to see the number of people passing the initial dmi could well they take the best of the dmi scores and place the rest in the holding pool like what happened to us and wait to see how they get on with the 2nd assessment and anyone that can’t make it or fail then people from the reserve pool would get called up

To those who have sadly been informed that they were unsuccessful, or waiting until the end of July to find out, did you apply as part of the trainee driver process which closed end of May or in a previous recruitment drive?

I applied in May with no response so far, and when I log in to Abellio profile it says the application is still under consideration.

I applied for the position which ended on the 27th December. Had my tests in Feb but couldn’t make my first DMI appointment due to work. Had my DMI last Friday. Long process so far but I’ve heard of people taking much longer.

To the people who have passed the 1st assessment, how many lines did you get done roughly on the 5 pages of the bourdon test? I am roughly doing around 12 and when reviewing my answers am missing like 1 or 2 from each page. What about yous? How did yous do?

I was getting probs 2/3’s to 4/5’s down each page. They don’t look for you to finish the page. As long as you’re consistent with how far down you are getting and not missing any. Accuracy while maintaining speed is key.
