Apart from the performance issues the footcrossing at Marks-Tey precludes regular through running. It was never going to happen.
Marks Tey is crying out for a new step free bridge, if it extended to the car park it could be a relatively simple upgrade. The current bridge is clearly on it's last legs. Our chocolate teapot of an MP tried to get funding for this but the answer that came back was there was insufficient use of the station to justify it. Anyone who has physically wrecked themselves trying to get a heavy bicycle or heavy luggage across the bridge will testify how vital it is. I have no idea how Wheelchair users cope at Marks Tey.

This solves the footcrossing issue as well.

Was going to say that even Abellio couldn't make a mistake of not putting luggage racks in.

Can't say I like the new colour scheme, too much white for my liking, the original colour scheme with some greys and less clinical white and slightly darker carpets was far better.

I must admit I agree with you - it's the same with the WMT colour scheme - it's *slightly* too light and would look better if *very slightly* darker.

Just to supremely take the piss - the route to the accessible toilet (on the Down platform) is signed on the Up Platform....via the footbridge steps.

So we may end up with accessible trains with a non totally accessible Station. Not exactly joined up thinking.

This will happen on Merseyrail as well - fitting lifts to stations like Aughton Park (deep in a very narrow cutting with the road bridge high above the station) is simply not feasible - there is nowhere to sensibly put them. It would be cheaper to offer a free taxi on demand to Town Green/Ormskirk.

At Thetford some years ago wheelchair users found that only one platform was accessible thus making return journeys rather impossible. I'm not sur if is has been fixed yet.

It would have been cheaper to provide free taxis on demand for all disabled public transport users than invest in the infrastructure and vehicles to make them accessible.
I know one of the guys who was heavily involved in developing policy at the DfT. Government decided it wasn't an acceptable solution.

But then with Aughton Park you've got a choice of that or close it. It simply is not feasible to adapt it - there is no space to do so. You would have to completely rebuild it on the opposite side of the road bridge where there might be space, and to access it would probably need to replace the road bridge too. And closing it would be ridiculous. Would you close the LU Northern Line because it is not possible to adapt most of the stations?

It is necessary to make reasonable adjustments for disabilities. Providing a footbridge with lifts at a station where you can get onto one of the platforms without steps (or that can be arranged) is reasonable even if it does cost. With a station in a deep rock cutting with a high road bridge and platforms that are barely wide enough to be safe, it is not reasonable to expect that.

Back on topic, I am quite certain that there will be stations on AGA that are in the same sort of position - simply not viable to adapt.

Marks Tey has loads of room to build a new footbridge, one end would be at the level of the ticket office with a ramp down to one platform, thus this platform only needs stairs, the second, island platform has room for a footbridge with stairs and lift while the third base is a car park, again with sufficient room, this renders the foot crossing unnecessary.

I did always doubt how they would be able to run to between Colchester Town and Sudbury on an hourly schedule, in peak hours this would be even harder I would have thought.

The users on the line are really desperate for the new trains though, the old 153's and 156's fail so often.

755328, 755423 and 755424 reported as today's delivery run behind 66001.
Thanks for the update. I make that 14 out of 20 /4's and 4 out of 14 /3's delivered so far. Plus 6(?) of the 20 745's, 3 of each sub type.
If I've miscounted, I'm sure someone will correct me :D

I make the totals:
3 of 10 745/0 (Norwich sets): 002-004
2 of 10 745/1 (Stansted sets): 102/104
2 of 14 755/3: 326/328
17 of 24 755/4: 404-410/413-418/420/422-424

Yes there is access albeit via the Norwich end road bridge nowadays. Quite acceptable.

Network Rail buy all of the traction electricity from nuclear power stations. So it is from uranium.

I most certainly agree that it eliminates cold starting. But I wish people would not espouse this belief that heating the coolant is some magic bullet to shutting down the diesel engines while not putting it through a thermal cycle. Diesel engines work best at high power. This notion of turning them on-off-on-off while stopping engine wear by heating the coolant is a complete fallacy. How exactly is heating the coolant going to keep the exhaust port at the same temperature it experiences at high power?
I suspect the main benefit to warming the fluids (aside from the reduction of thermal stress) is that the oil in particular is less viscous and able to coat the working parts from the get-go.

The EADT are reporting that GA have said that the 755s will enter service at the end of next month https://www.eadt.co.uk/news/24-new-greater-anglia-trains-arrive-1-6147956 with the class 745s in service by the autumn.

“Greater Anglia is has now taken delivery of 24 of its new trains from Swiss company Stadler - and the first are expected to enter passenger-carrying service from the end of next month.”
Why the long wait? I thought they were approved now.
