ATW Trainee Train Driver

Hello everyone, brand new member here. After several applications for a trainee driver role (Cardiff depot) I have just yesterday been invited for a telephone interview from my application submitted in January. The email contained an apology for the time it’s taken to get to this point but the interviews are taking place between Tuesday and Friday next week.

I’m pleased to obviously get past the first hurdle of initial application but nervous in anticipation of the telephone interview.
Tips will be appreciated from those with experience of it please.

Well done, it does feel like a long process!

I've been told my several people that getting past the initial sift is hardest part of the process. For the telephone interview, do some research into TFW and KeolisAmey, the role of a driver. I am sure the questions are along the lines of, what do you believe the role of a train driver looks like? Typical day of a train driver? I think they like to know applicants know what they're applying for and show an understanding of the role.

Yep that’s about it having done it yesterday.
Research the company
Research the role
Why do you want to do the role
A couple of questions around your form
Lasted about 20 minutes and felt a bit odd as it’s a conference call
Best of luck

Write all the details/facts and figures down and have them in front of you to show how well you “remember” things. Won’t help in the face to face but deffo helps on the telephone interview. Just don’t sound like your reading the facts when you talk.

Good luck.

I made it past the sift for cardiff last September but didn’t pass the telephone interview. Good advice on the questions you will expect, its a wierd experience. Had a go again in February, not sure if it was within 6 month rule but thought why not. Didnt hear a thing and now i cant access my account to check progress and its been deleted.. think thats a sign

Sorry to hear that. May be worth an e mail to recruitment.
A guy I work with was sifted but was contacted to be told.
Any thoughts on why you didn’t get through the interview last time?
It’s such a strange experience not being able to see the interviewers.

Good call, might drop them an email..

Why I didnt get through... didnt mention enough buzzwords I reckon, didnt talk about health and safety.. was pretty nervous and I just felt I was talking to myself..

I also applied in February and now my application has disappeared too! I emailed them last week and they replied very quickly and are looking into it.

No way, sounds like we are in the same boat then.

I emailed them yesterday. Seems like I missed the boat this time esp as interviews are this week

You never know. A mate of mine missed his interview last week - they didn’t call him
He has just had an e mail saying he has it today.

I had emailed recruitment twice since the post closed in January as it had not updated whereas before I’d been sent the thanks but not this time email. They replied once saying that they were still shortlisting and luckily i had the invite for telephone interview last week.
Good luck to everyone I hope you at least get to know one way or the other.

I can now confirm the July course only has Crewe and Machynlleth drivers on it, nobody for Holyhead or Chester or anywhere else.

Heard this afternoon that I successfully passed the phone interview I had yesterday and will have my face to face next week.

They seem to have misplaced my application, no evidence of any account linked to email address. .. how bizzare, I managed to download application so have sent that but...no doubt will have to wait till next time

Not sure if it was you I spoke to last week on here about it, but the same thing has happened to me. They’ve replied to my emails about it but not actually made any progress yet.

Just had an email... 'there is no record of your application'. Luckily I downloaded my application as she has asked for a copy of it and the email I had once I applied. Just had a response..
'I have provided this information to our external provider and will be in touch as soon as they confirm'

Im sure its like searching for a needle in a haystack. Not holding much hope, and will get back on it next time they come available
