If you could make an announcement or play anything at any station over the tannoy what would it be?

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
My ever-growing playlist of favourite tunes on Spotify. As of today it's only 109 tracks, reckon the acoustics at St Pancras would be perfect for it.

At London Kings Cross, I would like the following:

The next train to depart fro platform 9¾ will be the 11:00 Hogwarts Express service to Hogsmeade, calling at Hogsmeade only. Change at Hogsmeade for horseless cart connections to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A trolley services of chocolate frogs and other light refreshments is available on this train. Platform 9¾ for the 11:00 Hogwarts Express service to Hogsmeade.

Turn off all the lights and in a deep whisper...

"The train departing from Platform 1 is worked by a Pacer train. Have you remembered to bring your seasickness tablets ?"

I've never forgotten the very provocative announcement "Rochdale six Bradford nowt" over the tannoy at Rochdale station at tea time on Saturday Nov 2nd 1968. Needless to say me and several others were not amused!

How many stations still have a full time announcer? Doncaster does, but most other stations seem to have auto systems with manual tannoys only in disruption etc.

Peterborough does as do all LNER stations.

Doesn't Kings Cross still use manual announcements?

I would play pachelbel canon. It's very calming and soothing and people, are often in a manic rush at train stations.

Evertime I hear people playing it on the piano at St Pancras, I always stop and film it. It always seems to draw a crowd.

Google it if you don't know it.

No trains call at Melton Mowbray from this station (Wigan Wallgate/North Western) as their pies are inferior to ours!

Rather a lot of years ago, the roving radio presenter Brian Johnston visited one of the London mainline terminus stations. He somehow persuaded the PA staff to announce "Would the passengers who have just taken the train from Platform 9 please return it, as it is wanted immediately".

On a Southeastern metro train I would love to announce that at the next station RPOs will be entering all 8 coaches, just to see how many passengers panic.

I wish I could have heard music playing from the speakers originally installed in the 1970s canopies at Leicester station. They were, if I remember, 10 inch units which would have had a truly impressive bass response! There was certainly a good deep 'thump' when the announcer keyed the mic. I believe that they've now been replaced with units more specific to speech reproduction.

An excerpt from Verdi's Requiem (Dies Irae, Libera Me) at a west London terminus as the platform allocation goes up 5 minutes before departure...

Adding to this, someone on an pro audio forum supposedly went to ASDA possibly to get a refund for something and wasn't treated all to well, unluckily for them he had noticed the store greeter with a wireless microphone and decided to hatch a plan.
He used a scanner to work out what frequency they were broadcasting on and used that information to broadcast remotely on the wireless microphones frequency that all booze was half price, the police ended up having to close the store given the chaos it created.
