I am out in South Korea and came across this MCW double decker! It appears it left it’s home with West Midlands travel and came over here and ended up near the beach not too far from Daebudo, which isn’t that far from Seoul.

Anyone know anything from the UK side of things? It seems to have lasted a fair amount of time on the road as it was taxed till Aug 16, it looks like it came straight from the depot to Korea.

Cheers for that, interesting to see how many owners it had towards the end in quite a short space of time,

At some point then it was shipped off to Korea,

The couple of time I was in Malta, years back, I loved the old green single-decker Guy buses rattling round the island - they seemed to be the predominant type at the time. Maybe second-hand cast-offs from the LT fleet of Guy vehicles? (Someone told me they didn't go to Malta as new,) Sadly - from the aesthetic, historical, and cultural angles at least - they were all replaced when the service was privatised a decade back.

Not sure the vehicles were Guys or ex London. Many were rebuilds from military parts and ex UK coach imports. David

Most were Bedfords or Leylands rather than Guy's - and some younger than you might think but the older style of bodywork was often locally built in Malta.

Pedantically the Maltese bus service wasn't "privatised" as technically it was never nationalised - if anything it was similar to the model in London whereby the schedules were determined by the ATP (Public transport association) and operated by in effect owner drivers.

What happened was the whole network was in effect 're let' and Arriva won the tender, though that only lasted 2 years - it was nationalised temporarily and then re-let to Autobuses Urbanos de León.

The Maltese network of old was never nationalised in the NBC or even Isle of Man Transport model - so you can't really say that the removal of the old vehicles was the result of privatisation - because it wasn't.

Hi - thanks - I stand corrected. Those old green buses years ago matched my memory of London's Guy buses. But even though my Malta trips were years back, my bus spotting days were even longer ago, so.... They were lovely old buses though.
