Hi, Iv'e recently been invited to an Assessment Centre for a Trainee Conductor and can't seem to find any info on training length. I'd be very grateful if someone knew how long the training is and how the assessment day is?

Thanks!

Is this for the job that was listed quite recently for the talent pool? How long have you been waiting since you applied? Congratulations on getting to this stage.

Although it is several years since my assessment and training, l think that the employer will look for someone who can work under pressure, is literate and enumerate and who can give valid examples of previous exceptional customer service.

Length of guard school varies, types of traction to be signed, routes to learn play a part. My classroom stage was around 4 weeks, with several weeks more route learning and trainer monitored rides.

The first few weeks training are quite intense, but route learning can be very enjoyable, particularly if you buddy up with one or two new colleagues.

Good luck

If you are new to the role training will be a weeks induction, 3/4 weeks rules training (includes initial traction) then one week retail training at Huddersfield.

Then you will go to depot and have a local induction, then depending on depot it could be upto 6/8 weeks route learning. Mixed in that time will be traction pass out and your final rules assessments (2 days).

Thanks a lo! Very informative. Also, are visible tattoos allowed? I know they aren't for some companies but I wondered if anyone knew whether TransPennine express had a rule? Can't find anything on FirstGroup website?

Can't answer for TPE, but l have forearm tats and wore short sleeves in the sunny west country. No one ever mentioned them.
