There may be a few more TfL Rail 315s withdrawn soon, depending on progress with the troublesome 345s. Last time I checked, 20 TfL Rail 315s remain on lease until 2020 but the lease of several others (due to have expired in December 2018) has evidently been extended.

Near a bunch of sheds that aren't 66s.
Withdrawals is on hold at the moment as no more 345s are being introduced to either side of TfL Rail. I think it would mostly be quiet throughout a chunk of this year but expect this thread to get hot come the summer and winter.

858 has been out and about though on the Lea Valley LO lines. Already copped a few rides by chance but you can tell it looks out of place on that side of Liverpool Street!

Been about 15 years now since the First Great Eastern / WAGN divide in the fleet. IIRC the old west Anglia sets were 848 to 861 with nearly all of them in different WAGN/advertising liveries. When ONE came in and mixed the fleets I was hoping to catch an FGE liveried set on west Anglia but I can't remember if this ever happened before they were all given the refreshers sweet packet treatment

I am slowly starting to realise that I will miss these trains a lot once the 710s have wiped them out, I can’t believe their time is nearly up

And believe me once Ilford got their hands on these they were never the same, Hornsey units always felt different. They were just maintained to a higher level. FGE drivers used to always comment on how different they were to drive, used to fly!....As with most things money related GEC powered units mixed with the Brush units, parts got mixed, and brake calibration etc slowly got dialed down for longer service intervals until you get what we have now. Notch 4 used to be warp speed, now id be surprised if any of the inductive diverts are even still working! The WA cabs are also slighty different.

I assume they were divided once before when West Anglia and Great Eastern had route branding in NSE times. Was it the same batch for WA back then?

I believe that divide existed at least back to the start of privatisation. Prior to that under NSE there were definitely a batch that carried West Anglia logos rather than the majority being GE. I think those were the same units 848 to 861, though happy to be corrected. I don’t know where the WA units were based in NSE days. Back as far as the 80s I’ve seen pictures of both fleets on West Anglia side.

Funny you mention that as I seem guaranteed to attract that unit like a magnet. Catch it too many times a week by sheer luck. If you are looking for it, quite distinctive as it doesn't have the yellow warning stripes on the doors.

* 804 is being repaired following an accident.

What accident?
Isnt the 804 1 of 4 with better headlights than others? Why is it they have different headlights?

Its a shame they are going cause their acceleration is better than a lot of the 31x units

804, 806, 809, 812 were the first few units to receive the full C6 overhaul. Originally the plan was for all of the units to look this way. As with most things rail related it was decided that the rest of the fleet wouldnt receive the "full fat" version due to money constraints. They are identical other than true day/night mode/hazard headlights with proving lights, Vigilance, and an electronic wiper with an intermittent setting. Great at clearing bugs in summer! Acceleration has slowly died over the years sadly. They used to fly.

Your lot don't seem as great though compared to the GE ones, who work in pairs and tend to get easier off peaks. I think it is probably down to more extensive use and never enough time to be loved properly in between duties. They do get worked harder and that should be respected.

I could easily vouch for that.

I honestly forgot why they have different headlights but I remember it being explained further upthread.

This might help: 315804 has an Electrostar/Turbostar headlights. I believe this was the first unit to be refurbished at Derby.

Indeed, I wish we had kept the old West Anglia units at the top of the number range... Back when they were maintained at Hornsey there was a huge gap in both acceleration and braking to the GE ones. Ex FGE drivers loved them when they got mixed up, and WAGN guys could believe how poor the GE ones were. Eventually when parts were mixed and maintenance was all done at Ilford they all became pretty much the same..

What is the latest fleet status?

I have:-

315.801-12,14-17,58 as London Overground
315.818-27,29-31,33-34,36-39,42-44,47-49,51-54,56-57,59 as tfl
325.813,28,32,35,40-41,45-46,50,55,60-61 as scrap.

Is this still correct?

Beware: 315805 out of service at Ilford following derailment at Chingford.

315804 and 858 on borrowed time due to requiring C4 overhaul.
