Just a quick one - can I get a full refund for an off peak day return when the train I planned to get was cancelled? I didn’t travel as getting a later train would not have been suitable (intended to meet friends for lunch but they needed to get off home so couldn’t wait the extra 90 minutes).

Train was the West Midlands 1202 today from Hereford, cancelled apparently due to “planning error”, which doesn’t fill me with any sympathy!

Also I meant to add that their website insists on a “length of delay” even though I ticked cancelled in the next box. Length of delay is irrelevant as I didn’t travel at all.

That sounds like the WMT Delay Repay form where as what you need in the case of an abandoned journey is a refund.

You will need to approach WMT CS assuming you purchased the ticket from WMT, else contact the retailer where you bought the ticket.

There will be no admin charge as the train is cancelled but they may try it on as I have found out.

Thanks both. I bought the tickets online on the TPE website (ironically it's the ones I mentioned on another thread where the ticket office wouldn't let me have them as I didn't have both our railcards with me), so I don't suppose the counter staff will be able to help, and TPE will probably say it's WMT's problem not theirs (which it is, but as the retailer presumably TPE should refund me?). I haven't even claimed yet and already I can see this going round in the usual circles, and me ending up £11.40 out of pocket  . Also might they say that I can't prove I didn't use the tickets, as it will be after the date of travel by the time I sort out how to claim?

A pain having to print off the TPE claim form. Why can't we write the reference number given on a piece of paper and send that with the tickets? My printer is fairly inaccessible, and some people don't even have one.

I’d probably just write to TPE explaining what happened and enclose the tickets. You could also remind them in your letter that the £10 admin fee isn’t applicable as you didn’t travel due to disruption.

Requesting it might be, receiving it may be another matter! I will go through the motions though.
We've been through this before:
@trainophile you can claim a refund on the unused ticket; the refund is available from the retailer.

Delay Repay isn't applicable for an unused ticket.

TPE cannot say that; they are the retailer. If the train is cancelled and you choose not to travel, the retailer must refund you.
I can only reiterate what I've said before on this matter, though I will add that if if this retailer isn't treating you well, there are loads of other retailers to choose from!

Gosh yorkie you have a good memory! If I have asked this question before I do apologise for this thread, but I've obviously forgotten about it, also the outcome. It's just been a bit of a tiring day. In the end the people we were going to meet for lunch drove over to us instead, which all worked out well. I was just annoyed about the situation and envisaging the hassle of trying to do a reclaim for a fairly insignificant amount of money, but it's a matter of principle. Case closed  .
