I managed to have a chat with a FL driver the other day and FL are apparently testing a class 70 on one of the night jumbo trains this week.
The driver also said that FL did not want to run jumbo's but single portion trains. If that is correct they will obviously need more driver's than DB currently use to run the service.

If there is a course running currently in Reading for the Mendip work, do you think they may stagger the upcoming courses. I.e the next one be for non-Mendip work depots so as to not flood it with trainee's or does it not work like that?

I was told by a FL manager a course for 10 will be starting in Bristol during September.
Also they require 85 drivers but did not say if they would all be based at Merehead.
Merehead (Torr Quarry) will be the depot not Whatley

Anyone had any contact from FL recently?
Nothing. Emailed them on the 8th asking about this course that is going ahead in Reading as that was my chosen depot and haven’t received anything in return. Starting to feel like I’ll be waiting a long while, if ever.

Hi, can anyone help me please, I recently got a email to ask if I would interested in HH, rather than IM!
I had my heart set on IM, so this has come as a surprise for me and all what I’ve read on HH is that it’s long hours mostly nights and weekends!
I am not new to the industry so I understand the shifts but just how bad is HH, and how much time do you have off?
Any help would be great!

Cheers mate, it’s just made me question the whole idea of becoming a driver! I’ve got young kids and the whole point would be more time with them but both HH and IM am not so sure that would happen! ‍♂️

IM you get most weekends off and loads of rest days and you're timetabled for 13 weeks. Week 12/13 you are off too as week 12 is a week of rest days and week 13 annual leave. So at least you can organise your life.

HH you don't really know what you're doing until the Thursday before the week you're working. So in other words, no life. The bonus with HH is you are paid about £5k more than IM plus you get to hang lots of silly things of your very heavy orange bag, mainly because you need 12 hours worth of kit/ food etc.

Freight works around passenger services so unsociable hours are just part and parcel of the job... therss Fordes and against IM and HH... I have 3 young children but find with my shifts I do more with them around school drop off and pick up, and it's a 4 day week.... in my opinion youd be mad not to at least give HH a go and see if it works for you. If it doesnt once you're qualified theres other options available such as moving across to IM. It's an extremely difficult job to get offered. 1000's would give anything to be in your position and theres a good reason for that. Seriously think about it before just ditching it all together.
