Hi does anyone know how soon you are able to book holidays once conductor training at Northern has finished? I am due to start on the 19th of August so assume training would finish around the same time in November? Therefore would booking something for December be acceptable? (Im only thinking of a mini break say 4 days)
I have no idea about how the rota's will work and when I would start to appear on them and don't want to cause any potential issues with my train manager being a newbie, and so would just leave it till next spring if I have to. Settling in well is my main priority here!

TIA for any replies/input.
Best regards Paul.

i think it depends on whether your going onto the east or west side. A lot of trainees take a week off after they have pasted out. Just ask your line manager when your having your rules, you should get what ever you want off as they don't need to cover your jobs as you won't be in the roster until you have finished your route learning

Thanks for your reply. Sorry I should have said I ll be based at Blackpool north. When you say getting my rules what does that mean. At what stage of the 3 month process is that. I am led to believe I ll do a month in the classroom in manchester and then a further two based from Blackpool learning routes etc.

Hi, rules (final exam with your manager) is after your classroom learning and being out with a minder conductor, but i am only really know about the east side so it could be different over in the west side.

During your 1st week you will probably have an induction day at your depot, where you will meet your line manager. Ask then. As a rough guide it's around 14 weeks until your final assessment and you're unlikely to get leave during this time. After that you will be route learning, probably for just over a month at Blackpool depending on whether you go on ex TPE or ex FNW routes. It is likely leave would be granted during this time.

Not long for you now mate.I bet you can't wait.

Do you know where else the training is held?

Thanks

Yes my course is in Manchester, Re other training bases someone else would be better to advise, but as far as I knew, it was generally Manchester or Leeds ?
