I notice that Freightliner Intermodal have started to serve Avonmouth West Wharf, with a train from London Gateway on Saturday, returning this morning. I guess this better serves the bulk wine traffic to Avonmouth, avoiding expensive cross-city road deliveries from Bristol Freightliner Terminal and/or cross-Severn roading from Wentloog. I wonder if this is a permanent arrangement or a one-off trial? If successful does this mean closure of the Bristol Railport on Liberty Lane?

Loads. the wine growing region along the banks of the Avon are rivaled only by those along the Rhone ;)

it is wine IMPORTS via Bristol
I'll have you know that my father's Hanham Green Elderberry was renowned.

Many years ago there was a bonded warehouse in the old docks. We went on a visit once and the bus driver was not allowed in! The atmosphere was heavy with alcohol. Some nice pipes of port and barrels of malt whisky.

"Sin Traffic" from Bristol was always quite reasonable - the short lived 2 car Freightliner attached to a Speedlink working for Glasgow was invariably Harveys Bristol Cream sherry and the tobacco products of W H +O Wills.

There was a lot of rail replacement work going on around Avonmouth/St Andrews Road overnight at the weekend.
I think quite a lot of tired permanent way was replaced.

Great recollection. One of very few Freightliner-Speedlink combos, often forgotten.

It made a lot of sense and easily arranged - it was the northbound Tavistock Junction - Taunton - Mossend. The train loco did the attachment at South Liberty Lane ! A train made up of a lot of alcohol basically with Taunton Cider and Anchor Steam bitter from Truro.

Mmm. Sounds like a good train to be stuck in a snowdrift with...
