In theory it should be the last day for 91108 today:

Working:

0706 London - York 1N80
1002 York - London 1Y82
1393 London - Leeds 1D15
1545 Leeds - London 1A39
1833 London - Leeds 1D28

Finishing at Neville Hill to be replaced by 91107, which is to come light engine from Wabtec today.

91108 will then run light engine to Wabtec tomorrow.

Subject to change, etc etc.

Noticed that there was a light engine movement to Doncaster this morning. I think it was originally listed for 11:19, but was rescheduled for 09:25 ? - Can't confirm if this was any of the above 91's

I never managed to cop 91108 before, but with its reprieve I managed to ride in front of it as it propels 1Y82 from Stevenage to Kings Cross so I can confirm is currently running the diagram listed above, posting this from its set wifi. Here's a bad photo in the rain, might get a better one in London which has the number clearer

Those are after arrival at Kings Cross, showing the farewell messages everyone wrote in the dirt.

(As a sidenote, I got onto its train off an Azuma, so I had a direct comparison of the two types of stock. The main difference was that the suspension and seats were so hard in the Azuma that it felt like you were going far faster than you actually were. Ride control had actually improved, but clearly at some cost)

WELL DONE but to scrap ? another 10 years in um yet.

It will almost definitely be scrapped. Components will be removed to help keep the rest of the fleet going. There isn't really an ongoing market for 140mph electric locos as it is, so I can't see any future at all for an incomplete one!!

people need to get a grip of themselves! This is just a loco going out of service not the end of an era.

first couple will no doubt be the standard depot Christmas tree to keep the rest of the fleet running. Why spend money on spares when you can recover them from a donor

They don't really. They're around thirty years old and have covered about 7.5 million miles apiece. They're increasingly worn out and have had a good innings for an express passenger locomotive designed for a specific purpose. 91108 is to be used as a source of spare parts to keep 91116 and 91125 (IIRC) in service for a few more months.

Some of the stock, however, might have another ten years left in it.

Not a huge development as such as many of the APT features and developments are in the 91 (whereas a 90 is essentially an updated 87) however the ,91 is also the limits of DC electrical traction and transmission technology and is very highly stressed as a result.

A slightly different point of view from Roger Ford of ‘Modern Railways’. I have to admit, my recollections from the time are a bit hazy!

I believe he is correct, that 91s have only a passing similarity to APT power cars.
He is correct, and it is one of those myths that has been repeated many times on here and debunked every time, yet still people believe it.

Just look at the builders:
APT a BR Research/BREL product with ASEA traction kit
Class 91 a GEC-Alsthom product.

Exactly - different builders, different specification.

When will the next Class 91s be withdrawn?

Supposed to have been a few withdrawn last month I believe, but only 108 has. Certainly more were slated for withdrawal this month but as the brief re-instatement of 108 proved, anything could happen really.

Discussion about whether or not LNER should have withdrawn HSTs first is off-topic. The posts discussing that have been moved to a new thread which can be found here. Please use this thread to continue discussing the ongoing withdrawal of 91s and Mk4s from LNER.
