My apologies, I probably should have worded that better...
I'm with you, I couldn't tell either, but I'm a chef, not an engineer....
So was basically saying "I'll take his word for it" in a tongue in cheek manner
np, least we’ve not started a comotion like some other members

The facts are a driver drove his bus through a low bridge and tore the entire roof off the bus. It's a pretty clear cut case of driving without due care and a attention.
Legally it doesn't matter what you think though, it's what's determined at the driver's trial. He may plead guilty or not guilty based on whatever he's being charged with. It's the way our system works. Like it or not.

So it looks like the strike has been postponed for Friday. I assume the unions have urged them to look at a new deal or something.

A "deeply damaging" strike by bus drivers has reportedly been halted at the last minute following an agreement to suspend a walk-out during the festival.
The strike action, due to start on Friday, had been called for amid allegations of harassment and bullying within the company - with 59 per cent of Unite union members voting to reject a deal by management last week.

Lothian chiefs had been drawing up contingency options including drafting in drivers from other services such as East Coast Buses and Lothian Country.

But last-gasp talks have reportedly resulted in the industrial action being suspended before drivers were set to go on strike from 3am from Friday.

Unite members are expected to hold another ballot on future strike action.

Lothian Buses and Unite have been contacted for comment.

More follows.

Set aside for a later date. Not called off. Unfortunately problems dont go away if toxicity still exists- you only have to look at Chernobyl for that.

Edinburgh Lothian Buses strike: Union announces further ballot for August 9
Unite the union has announced Lothian Buses drivers will again be balloted on August 9.
This comes after planned strike action - due to begin on Friday - was suspended this afternoon.

Unite said that following a 'series of intense negotiations involving the union, Lothian Buses and stakeholders' the industrial action set from Friday had now been suspended.

Unite regional industrial officer, Lyn Turner, said: “Unite can confirm that sufficient progress has been made in negotiations between the union, Lothian Buses and stakeholders to suspend the strike action set to begin on Friday.

"Additional proposals were tabled which we will now put to our members and a workplace ballot will take place on the 9th August.

"We are confident these latest proposals will give our members the assurances they require to positively address this long running issue.”

Lothian Buses have brought forward additional proposals which will be put to Unite’s 1700-strong membership over the next few days and voted on Friday, August 9.

Last Friday, Unite members rejected further proposals to address the dispute issues aimed at improving the workplace culture. These were considered insufficient.

Unite said the dispute stemmed from 'poor workplace relations, and a bullying and hostile culture at Lothian Buses by management'.

Mr Turner added: "Staff were subjected to unfair treatment and longstanding procedural agreements were regularly breached which directly affected the terms and conditions of Unite’s membership."

A spokesperson for Lothian Buses said: "It is the hope of both parties that this agreement will be passed in order to avoid any industrial action."

Going by the statement below you would be forgiven for thinking the strike isn’t going ahead at all. It took me a few times reading it through to understand what was actually happening.

Customer Update

Positive talks with Unite have led to a deal being agreed between Lothian and union officials which will suspend Friday’s proposed strike action.

Unite will now take forward the jointly agreed proposal to their members with a recommendation for acceptance.

It is the hope of both parties that this agreement will be passed in order to avoid any industrial action.

What would be the point in that when that person can just leak it anyway. Additionally what's stopping you posting it here?

If someone leaks it it then isnt my issue. The images of the deal are available online, I've just offered to share them to those that arent there.

Regarding the new Airlink buses, are they going to manage spinning around on the roundabout at the end of Waverley Bridge or will they have to alter the route?

They’ve already altered the route from the beginning of this week (although the buses will still have to spin around the roundabout on Waverley Bridge) so I’m sure they’ve tried and tested the XLB’s out beforehand.

Route no longer goes along George Street and up The Mound. Runs right along Princes Street... which as a result means they are getting stuck in the multitude of other buses fighting their way along there (sometimes delaying buses by up to 20+ minutes at peaks - it literally is a car park along there with trams, endless buses, tourist coaches and taxis). Situation made worse since Stagecoach permanently send all their coaches along there, plus the new XLB’s etc.

This week they’ve been diverting Airlink buses along Queen Street and St Andrews Square.

That section between Hanover Street and South St David’s Street (especially eastbound) really is an issue that needs addressing ASAP.

Is not running via The Mound, due to the XLBs, or due to other reasons (such as all the additional tour buses now laying over on Market Street)

George Street is closed in parts through the Festival which I feel may be the reason for this rather than the new XLBs.

So can they get round the roundabout? I assumed they be able to do the left turn, but the whole roundabout is fairly impressive

Some genius has decided to put the Spiegeltent on George Street between Frederick Street and Hanover Street again, even though it causes chaos every year they put it there...

I don't understand why it can't be on the stretch between Frederick Street and Castle Street, where it wouldn't make such a mess of the traffic.

Exactly! Castle street is already pretty much pedestrianised, so to me, makes far more sense to do Fredrick St to Castle Street.

But then our dear council doesn't really care about what disruption is caused to traffic including public transport....
The 41 is having to come down mound, up and over Hanover St, Queen St, then up and over Fredrick Street, to get to Princes Street - complete lunacy....
