I don't suppose anyone knows the reason for the storage of 67026 back in 2016? Considering its livery was fairly new compared to some of the other members of the fleet, I'm guessing there is a reason for its storage rather than DB 'choosing' to store because it was surplus to requirements.
Any help with this would be much appreciated,
Many thanks in advance

The livery on a loco means very little when the mechanical condition of the loco has to be considered. A lack of spare parts, new wheelsets, an electrical fault - these and many other reasons have nothing to do with the livery, and could all be reasons why it was stored, although your guess is as good as mine for the actual reason.

Another reason could be that the required fleet availability is low and locos are stored in rotation to balance out mileage/hours to keep maintenance and overhaul cycles in some sort of synchronisation. I be when a loco is stopped it becomes robbed of components that have become obsolete / not available in time to provide for the rest and rotating them probably means they don't become too much of an empty shell!

Thank you both for the replies. I was thinking that perhaps it was more of a mechanical/electrical issue than a strategic move because it has been stored since 2016 and is in the WQBA pool and it isn't looking like it will return any time soon.
But then again I read somewhere that it might have had an 'argument' with 90021 however I can neither confirm or deny this.

Yes, I had heard that 90021 was stored 3 years ago after a depot mishap. Suppose there isn't the work for the 90s to make repair viable at this stage, nor the will to invest capital into its repair.

How much damage did both of the locos sustain?

I read OP's point as being "why would they have repainted a loco on its last legs".

Especially if that loco (67026) was planned to work the royal train (which it did back in 2012/2013/2014) so they would've, I'm assuming, at the time chosen a mechanically and electrically good locomotive.
The reason for it's storage is presumably then something to do with it's argument with 90021 back in 2016, causing some unknown levels of damage for it to be stored in the WABA pool.
