Ok....but still, Virgin can do lime street to runcorn in 15 mins, is missing out parkway and a fast line enough to save 8 minutes on that short journey.

This isn't me arguing, just genuinely interested.
The Halton Curve service normally used the fast line so it can't be that. Perhaps it is down to the acceleration of the Pendolinos plus the Chester service having to stop? Good question.

I am on the curve train now, can tell you from Runcorn to South Parkway it flew along. Just left South Parkway now and we are moving rapidly, im well impressed with this service. Oh trains busy too.
On Sunday they had a refreshment trolley on the train.

I think it is two 150/2's today. Looks like 175109 is finally getting fixed. Ha ha.

yeah the 175s are TfW's newest "old" trains. the later units of the build scrape the 21st century!

just out of interest, how much does anyone think it would cost for a simple station to be built for Beechwood ? If I got enough in the building society I might donate £50 ! :D

Nice to know, I have been on one or two on the Curve service, found them pleasant .

The 175s are easily the best of the old ATW fleet. Since they're all being fully refurbished, I suspect there may be some truth in rumours that TfW will hang on to at least some of them as a back-up for the new fleet.

A pendelino is faster than a DMU. I'm not sure what else needs to be said about it really.

Also the TfW if not held up leaving lime Street gets to parkway 3-4 mins early. There lies your difference.

All understood, but mileage per minute is pretty crap whichever way you look at it.

I truly hate the stop start of merseyrail and their trains generally. So will continue to use the new service where possible , but to take longer than a 16 stop , stopper is pretty bad.

Very impressed with the Merseyrail train I used on Thursday morning from Chester to Liverpool.

Prompt departure from Chester, dwell times at stations kept to an absolute minimum by a highly visible guard who was present throughout the journey. Tickets checked on board, accurate announcements and bang in time arrival at Lime Street.

Perhaps they have upped their game in response to the TfW Halton Curve Route?

A good advert for keeping guards on the train, not hiding in the rear cab.

Slightly off topic but believe a few weeks ago a car struck a bridge in Runcorn just prior to Runcorn station approaching from Halton curve end.

The bridge has been cordoned off for a few weeks but tonight the road is closed with lots of workers ready for last trains to pass through before starting work.

Does anyone know if the bridge will be repaired tonight?

one would hope that they'd keep the ones with the most firing engine cylinders but the least likely to go up in smoke :p

I was looking at the Merseyrail map today and a thought came to me. If Merseyrail trains do turn out to work on batteries, is there any merit in considering running some Elsemere Port/Chester services over the curve to Lime Street? You could then run future North Wales services express from Chester to Liverpool with a stop at Liverpool South Parkway and possibly Runcorn only. It feels like it could open up a host of new journey opportunities and would also plug the City Line onto the Merseyrail network proper.

I think if they could get battery ops Ellesmere Port to Helsby would be a good start.

A bit OT but:

Yesterday's 10:52 Chester to Manchester Piccadilly was cancelled due to "driver sickness". Unfortunate, as I had just sat down on the train when the announcement was made.

A bit of a blessing in disguise though, as I was directed to the new(ish) 11:24 Chester to Leeds service. This proved to be a very good alternative, quicker with less calling points (3 vs 7). Meant getting off at Manchester Victoria though, which was no biggy for me.

Got the same service back to Chester (18:07 from Victoria).

Guard said there were new trains on order for this service.

According to new timetable from May this year, its looks like the 0703 ( M-F from Chester to Liverpool via the curve originates in Shrewsbury. I don't believe this has happened before being Wrexham General the furthest this service has come from/to.

Nice if it could be on good "long distance" rolling stock, the only problem with combining 2 services into 1 through working, is the unwanted risk of a distant problem cancelling a previously unaffected local service. possible late running from Shrewsbury resulting in a "turn back" at Chester etc. Still it is in line with the Welsh Goverment ideas to "open up" new connectivity to/from North Wales, some good old fashoned posters on the stations would be nice "Visit Shrewsbury with ATW" etc.

The TFW Halton Curves are now booked for 175s. Any trains can be late anywhere and react on other services
