DfT didn’t order any of the TPE fleet.

No, i meant the original IEP trains ordered by DfT built by Hitachi for GWR/LNER, poor interior, GWRs anyway.
That's why TPEs have leather, not ordered by cheapskates DfT.

TPE wanted a luxurious first class interior that was similar to the Cl185 refresh.

The first class seats on all the fleets are really comfy and I’m sure people will really enjoy Nova 2 first class! (A massive step up from a Cl 350)

I'm just being a devil <( now... So has all the money for comfort on all 3 Nova fleets gone into First class but cattle class can make do, comfort not allowed!! o_O

;);)

Apologies - I was just talking about the significant visual difference on the first class seats.

The seats on all Nova fleets are the same as on the IET. I believe this is primarily due to Hitachi only offering one seat design for standard/first without a ridiculous additional cost. With this in mind, it makes sense from a continuity perspective to keep the same seats on the Nova 2 and 3.

Just to be clear:
I’ve personally spent several hours travelling on each of the Nova fleets. Each time, I spent at least an hour in both standard and first class, sitting, looking out of the window, working on my laptop. I love the interiors of these trains and both standard/first seats.

The seats are only a small part of what makes these trains nice to travel on, the general ambience in the coach is very nice, and if I had to pick a favourite, I’d say Nova 2 was my favourite standard class.

The only negative comment have so far about these units is the red cable that appears to have been sort of stapled to the top of some of thr carriages and almost looks like an afterthought.

It won’t stay red for long...

Thanks! The nose cone on 397003 is a replacement one which hasn't yet been redone into livery yet
That is good news! What happened to it?? (sorry, can't spend the time going back through 27 pages of comments right now, on the off chance). If you know, great! If you don't, don't worry.

Great looking units, but I think the biggest mistake with these Class 397s is not having an underskirt (like the 802 or 390) all around protecting all that under-frame equipment. These are 125 mph units. Going to throw plenty British muck about. Time will tell.

I take it these will probably only run as a double set North of Preston.

These units as a Bi-mode would have been spot on.

Agreed.

Also, fatalities do enough damage without adding a nose cone to the mix. It all becomes a missile to the rest of the equipment inside such as the coupler etc. Turn around time will be massively increased I would expect.

Is their the space for 10 car diagrams at most of their stations?
Yes, all stations served on the WCML except Bolton and Manchester Airport.

North route is a mixed bag of yes and no depending on the station, platform used and travel direction.

I didn't actually realise they were splitting the 397s up. What service frequency will 12 5-car units offer versus the current 5 sets of 2x4?

No double unit diagrams planned for any of the Nova fleets

So there not Attaching/detaching a Manchester Airport 397 to a Liverpool 397 at Wigan North Western or Preston in the future then?

I wrote that because you wouldn't see any 10 cars there as there won't be any going to the airport.

No but they might terminate at Manchester Piccadilly in the future and run empty to Longsight Excursion platform to reverse.

The 350s rarely run as 8-car trains, especially now that one 4-car unit is out of action.
The same frequency from Manchester will operate with 397s.
The extra 2 units are for the separate Liverpool-Glasgow service (3tpd), so there will be a few extra trains Preston-Glasgow.
