If anyone is going to Paris on E* in the next few weeks, would it be
possible to purchase a single Paris metro ticket for me?

Need one for my return from Spain early October and with the TGV/AVE
being somewhat hit and miss re said tickets and with a narrow window
to get across the city, I can rest easy knowing that I don't have to suffer
the usual problems with buying it at GdL.

I'm away on September 3 but going via Lille this time, so unsure if these
would be available via that route and from previous experience, St Pancras
only sells them in blocks of ten, as opposed to single tickets on board.

Just DM me and will sort out cost and postage.

Many thanks in advance.

I believe that you can buy onboard from the Café Metropol, on your Eurostar connection! :)

So they are available even if the train is not going to Paris?

Sounds like a dumb question but if you don't know...

Metro tickets are on sale at the bar on TGVs.

Was given the Gallic shrug on asking in a TGV bar last October on the way from Girona to Paris but
not being a regular traveller through France, that was probably just a minor blip.

Theory and practice.
yes in theory they should be.
In practice its hit and miss, with TO Paris much more miss-they of course, if they do at all, stock up in Paris so on the return chances of still having them in stock are minimal as then is greatest demand. same holds for Thalys.
Some staff were known (and reprimanded) of buying canrets (10 at a big discount) and then reselling these per 1 and pocketing the diff. But I recall (can anyone confirm now?) that RATP has in this spring gone over to complete chipcarding and for singles you first have to buy for a hefty 2€ the empty card and then load any trips you wish on.

I was there in June, and travelled around on the Metro just buying a paper ticket each time.

Paper t+ tickets are still being sold. However you now also have the option of buying a 2.00 Navigo Easy smartcard to load single, carnet and day tickets onto it. Once that becomes established they will presumably at some not yet specified date stop selling the paper tickets.

What do you mean by “narrow window”?
Fwiw you can buy “Ticket T” tickets at SNCF Transilien vending machines (not the yellow and grey machines for mainline tickets, though) at Gare de Lyon. You may also go to the underground “Salle Méditerranée” (now referred to as Hall 3” where there is an easier connection to the RER station rather than walk all the way up to the main concourse.

I think I'm all sorted now chaps...thanks again.

@SHD

Arrive in GdL at 15.53 and my E* departs at 17.13 so easy enough on paper but
from past experience buying a Metro ticket at the former has never been simple.

I come back from Spain annually in early October but have always had problems
with the machines, which tend to generate long queues at that time of day and an
undermanned ticket office, plus lack of staff to offer assistance.

Maybe I'm just unlucky but having a ticket on the hip before I hit town, makes me
rest at ease after five weeks on a beach.... 8-)

I can understand. Remember for another time the tip to buy your t+ tickets from Transilien vending machines, which are typically less crowded than RATP ones. Then head towards Hall 3 and catch your RER D train to Gare du Nord.
And if you _really_ want to feel the paper in your pocket as soon as possible, I will happily send you a carnet.

I was in Paris this week and paper singles were still available

yes - with no surcharge or anything like that. I got a single Ticket T+ from the cafe on the Eurostar train for £1.75 (they retail at 1 euro 70) which considering Eurostar have to take their share I thought was a good price to pay to avoid queuing up!

Eurostar used to sell carnets of 10 t+ tickets and Paris Visite 1 2 3 & 5 day (travelcards) at the info desk in St Pancras departure lounge. Sadly that was withdrawn several years ago when the £/€ exchange rate went south for UK travellers.
