Sorry, yes, it wasn’t very helpful of me just to post a photo without explanation - forum rules and all that. I’m sure it’s been described in detail before here, probably earlier in this thread but I haven’t had time to look for it.

4 cars have enhanced First Class branding. Of the 64 delivered 62 are in service. The 2 yet to enter service are 041 & 042.

Sorry, i'm confused by your reply. When I said all of the delivered and in service 4 cars I was meaning 385103 - 124, I wasn't meaning any of the 3 cars 3850XX's. I perhaps didn't explain enough.

it does, doesn't it! You'd think someone in Abellio would have noticed and objected.
It might not have been Abellio. Transport Scotland ordered the Saltire livery so what’s to say that it might’ve been them that ordered for the First Class bit to be like that.

Is it just me that thinks the font and use of First rather than 1st looks a bit like the First Group logo?

Funnily enough, I thought that too!

Though at the very least, no one can say the first class markings aren't clear! ;)

After false alarms in recent weeks, we do have a light engine movement!

Was on the 16:56 EDB-GLC earlier and the train hit something on the overhead lines between Holytown and Bellshill, and the pantograph on 385004 was completely trashed. Wonder what could have caused that? It doesn't look like it'll be back on the lines for a while.

Pic of the pan damage from ScotRail:
The train at Bellshill is now on its way back to the depot, being assisted by another of our trains. This is the pantograph, which has been flipped around, so can’t pick up power from the overhead wires. ^CT

It was caused by a faulty overhead line component. Hitachi will replace the pan (possibly just the head) and it’ll be back out again in jig time.

Regarding the deliveries of the 385's does anyone know why they seem to have slowed right down?

Since the start of May there has only been 6 deliveries. I thought they would have all been delivered by the start of August.

Is the testing at Newton Aycliffe time consuming?

Question re. First Class:

If, in theory, one were to go from Edinburgh to Glasgow via Falkirk Grahamston and Cumbernauld, would First Class be declassified on the service? RTT seems to think only standard for that route, whereas via Falkirk High is 1st and standard.

First class would be declassified via Grahamston, but not via High. So yes, you'll be able to use first class on the entire journey so long as it's via Grahamston and Cumbernauld. RTT gets its info off each TOC, rather than the other way around, so the accomodation it lists as being advertised on each service is generally accurate most of the time.

A 385 was seen on the Inverclyde lines on 10/08/2019. Working 2G56 from Gourock to Glasgow.

Is this booked for a Saturday or was it a stand in because of the disruption earlier in the day?

Watching an 8 car 385 breeze by is quite a sight. That is a long, long train. And I still marvel at how quickly it can accelerate, make up for lost time. They seem to be running really nicely just now - fantastic stuff.

One observation though - is it just me or does the air conditioning make a loud whistling sound especially when moving at speed?

Yeah I agree. The acceleration is amazing. In Edinburgh they seem to be doing really well - they’re perfect for the North Berwick and Dunbar routes. I was on one with a couple of people from Fife recently and they noticed the quality improvement compared to a 158.

I couldn't find anything under the Allocations, Diagrams & Timetables thread so I'll ask it here:
What operates the Edinburgh to Helensburgh service? Not that I would be on it long - Haymarket to Edinburgh Park - believe all of 4-5 minutes! It's timed for EMU in RTT...

Usually a 334.
