Hi all,

My wife has been given a start date with Northern at Leeds for the beginning of November. It is expected that no leave could be taken during the training period, but would she still accrue it? If so, how does Northern deal with that - does it carry over to next year (assuming the leave year ends on Dec 31st?) or would they pay her for the days she can’t take?

Thanks in anticipation.

You’re correct in that you can’t take leave during the training period. Yes, she will accrue leave and she will be able to take it when her course ends even though it runs into the following year. Her CTM will be able to organise that for her.

You accrue annual leave from day one. Best to check with Northern as to whether the group will be allocated any leave before the end of the year or if it will be rolled over. I suspect what is accrued will be used for Christmas and Boxing Day.

It's likely the training school will take a week off over Christmas, so she can expect any accrued leave in the 6-8weeks she'll have been working there by the end of the year, to be used then.

Training school will run staff dependant.

She will accrue leave and have it rolled over
