I think this is it...

It was originally on a Solo of ABC Travel of Southport, who were bought out and eventually became part of Glenvale who were then bought by Stagecoach.

At some point, the Solo was withdrawn and the plate transferred onto a Dart locally which has since been transferred to the Midlands
And now to C&G.

I think I just saw a Stagecoach bus painted in the old maroon and cream Devon General livery go past us on an Exeter to Crediton run.
Can anyone confirm this for me? Thanks all.

I'm sure i saw it earlier today in Exeter and so it's likely that one on the 5.

It was on the 5! Was walking to the Tesco in Crediton, turned around and saw it! Not quick enough to get my camera out though!

Hence my reference to the “main route” and I doubt that the 24 will augment it much. Then again, it’s a reflection of how hard it is to create a sustainable network in the FAAAAArest!
Been meaning to reply to this thread since I saw the changes announced.
I do find this surprising. Yes its very clever how the routes tie up the various bits Stagecoach were left with when James Bevan gave up, such as Cinderford to Blakeney, Lydney to Chepstow, Chepstow to Beachley etc but it is quite a cutback on the main routes. There are now two buses per hour from Gloucester to Cinderford via the direct route, from September there will be one. The extra one every two hours via Mitcheldean isn't much of a replacement. I don't see why this is running - there is already an hourly service from Gloucester to Mitcheldean now the 33 has been diverted. Between Cinderford and Coleford there are now two buses an hour via two direct routes taking 31 minutes. From September one of these routes goes down to three journeys between peaks (30 becoming 25) and the other vanishes altogether (31). As a replacement the 22 runs via Ruardean and takes 38 minutes. Ruardean used to have an hourly service to Gloucester - the old 24 via Mitcheldean, but this has been steadily reduced to a handful of journeys. Why is it now getting such an uplift in service? And is there so little traffic through to Coleford that this is justified?

Stagecoach South Wales have posted a number of changes effective 01-Sep-2019.
https://www.stagecoachbus.com/promos-and-offers/south-wales/service-changes-1-september-2019

I must admit that I am not surprised about the detour into Garden Village (Cambrian Avenue and Oak Street) in Hendreforgan being dropped from the route of Service 172. I once had to get a bus from Bridgend to Tonypandy at 1755 which should have got to Llwynypia, where I had to get off at Pont Rhondda for a 5 minute walk to collect a car for my employer, at just gone 1855. We left Bridgend on time and all went well until Hendreforgan when the driver found he couldn't turn from Thomas Street into Oak Street because of a badly parked van. Eventually the turn was made with the aid of guidance from residents (the owner / driver of the van couldn't be found) but we were about 15-20 minutes late into Tonypandy.

Some new routes in Plymouth would be nice too....

How about.... city to southway, city to Plympton, city to Honicknowle and West Park.

They would need to have considerably different routings and offer something that current Plymouth CityBus routes do not provide, or you just end up with a pointless and wasteful bus war.

I should think that First will keep the Nailsea - Weston College run. As for route numbers perhaps the Nailsea trip would be better renumbered as X5A to avoid confusion?

Dave
According to Traveline, the Nailsea - Weston College journeys will transfer to Stagecoach along with the rest of X5, so plenty of dead mileage!

Do Stagecoach do route learning? 1641 X5 yesterday parked on wrong stop on sea front at Weston, had to reverse onto busy Marine Parade then took wrong turn into town centre bus lane, had to reverse again then went up Oxford Street and missed terminus where people were waiting. Timetable at Marine Parade stop shows 1641 as college days only, terminating at Portishead, when it operates all the time and goes through to Cribbs.

They have been route learning on both new routes using the gold e300s

Not directly fleet related but...

Severn Express with Stagecoach hasn't got off to a very good start -
- removed the popular flexible mobile 10-journey carnet tickets, resulting in a 'back door' fares increase for many
- driver took wrong turn yesterday - had to reverse onto a roundabout to recover route
- only single deckers on some peak pm services
- peak service 20 minutes late turning up this morning

Already 'regulars' are talking about learning to drive/buying a car/driving instead...... Probably over-reacting but people don't have a huge amount of patience for these kind of things when they have been provided with a generally reliable service by First for many years

The first week of any service is never going to be perfect, after today's problems I suspect Stagecoach will have a much better idea of the difficulties with this service and will believe it can only get better as time goes on!

As it was a friendly transfer one would hope First would pass on what they've learned about the route and its operational difficulties to Stagecoach. Perhaps I'm over-optimistic though!

It might be something in how they operate differently - different depot locations, inter working/duty composition etc. Also, this is “back to work” week - first since the tolls were lifted.

They’ll always be the odd teething issue as Carl says.
