email Northern or the "nice people" at cf booth.
Are they Northern's property to sell (genuine question - who actually OWNS the stock and contents)? Once the trains have gone to the scrapyard I assume it belongs to the scrapyard - as a car which has been signed off does? Therefore it's the scrappers who sell, not Northern?
EDIT you could be saying contact Northern to see what they are doing with the stock, which is a good solution!

If you email them, they could point you in the right direction.

142s are owned by Angel, 144s belong to Porterbrook.

If they own the trains, then as soon as they are shipped to the scrapyard (they ARE being scrapped instead of stored?) then they won't physically own them any more?

142023 en route to MBR this morning. Bench seats, floor awash, windows running with condensation. 21st century passenger experience?

After being treat to 156s and 158s last week there was a collective groan at Thornaby when a pacer rocked up this morning

Do we know why the ones being stopped are being stopped? In other words why those units were selected?

If they were due for heavy exams it makes sense, but if it's partly been motivated by the desire for a "The Pacers are finally going!"type of publicity stunt then that isn't great if it leads to short forms as noted above.

Northern are dining out on the first few going. There’s a piece coming up on Granada Reports...

That hasn't stopped a single 142 being used on the 1318 Crewe-Manchester Airport-Liverpool service today (should be an EMU).
That was out in the morning too also did a Liverpool-crewe then back on the 1048 ex Crewe, the 1117 ex Crewe was an ex-LM 150 aswell

On the TV Northern have a 142 with “retiring today” written on the side...

They say all the 142s will be gone by the end of this year. Some 144s will remain.

Just seen a news report on the BBC that Northern admit that some Pacers will be used in South Yorks next year, later than they originally promised.

Since I mentioned possibly owning/buying an old pacer seat; there's been quite a bit of interest on twitter. Here's Northern's response;
Hi Howard, Northern do not own the carriages, but lease our rolling stock from two companies, Angel and Porterbrook. You can contact them directly at: [email protected] and [email protected] respectively.

One of the ex. LM 150/1s made it onto a Liverpool to Manchester to Crewe stopper this morning too - 07:31 off Piccadilly.

142046, mooted upthread as the second unit to be withdrawn, is on #1 Holding road on Newton Heath (next to the Rochdale lines) at the Thorpes Bridge end with its batteries isolated. Probably turned its last wheel in service.

It is/was a rather poor example of the class, I think I have failed that particular set more than any other over the years.

Well a few more 195s have entered service today so it allowed for some pacers to be withdrawn. Ii think 142016/21/22/25 and 66 have also been withdrawn although the MD of Northern seem to hint they may still see service under "exceptional circumstances" although seeing those units in service again appears to be unlikely.

So in theory 7 pacers have now retired, just another 72 to go.

Pacers 16 and 22 were both working Wednesday 07th August on Saltburn/Dar/Bishop circuit most of the day. They went empty to Heaton that night and have not worked since. Think Tuesday 06th, 066 was out on the same circuit. Went to Heaton that night. It too hasn't worked since.

Is this having an effect on Rose Hill Marple services, as Journey Check is reporting lots of short-forms there today and I know those routes are often Pacer-operated?

2 car 142 on the Alderley Edge - Southport tonight.

Not sure how Northern intend to run a service without these units...

Nothing on Journey Check to suggest 2 cars instead of 4 unless it's changed back to 4

I have been out and about today to Yorkshire. The withdrawals seem to have had a big knock on affect with few 142s observed today along the Atherton line The 0941 Wigan Wallgate to Manchester Victoria was short formed with a single 150/1 instead of two 142s, (or a 142 and 150). The 0924 Southport to Leeds was short formed too with 150114. The DMS carriage seemed to have vibrating engine mountings and was slow at taking up drive.

142026 was parked up at Huddersfield alongside 195111.

142046 has lasted well. Back in 1993 I had a vivid dream that I was at Ince station about to board it and jumped back as I saw an express headed by a Class 37 about to plough into the back of it!
