I heard it was because Ditra/KeTech was a more difficult software to work with than the commonly used ATOS. They switched for convenience more than anything. Besides the much nicer sounding Phil and Celia the other thing I miss is the three/four tone chime before an announcement which makes a departure sound more like a grand event than just another train about to leave. No ATOS stations to my knowledge have those chimes.

Northern still use Celia for their station annoucements, when it was first installed they did use the Ditra four tone chime which lasted for a good few years before it was removed (I'm sure they've switched to ATOS but using the same voice as before). Transpennine Express currently use Anne which is annoying, I'd rather see them use GWR Rodger as it would help break up the monotomy of using one announcer.

Last time I was at Norwich station, Anne's voice had been replaced with a newly-recorded version. Previously the same recordings as at Liverpool Street, apparently the new recordings were supposed to be clearer, but if anything it sounded quite harsh.

Was at Manchester Victoria the other day and they've replaced atrocious Anne with a nice polite sounding lady, who I assume is Celia. Much better.

Now for the awful voices on Northern and TPE. Including the new trains. I assume that a Geordie accent on a train between Manchester and Liverpool is supposed to signal how "local" the new trains are...
