There has been a points problem at St. Erth for almost a week now that has left the 2 x St.Ives 150s trapped on the Branch. GWR confirm that it might take 8 weeks to rectify which sounds as though a part has to be manufactured specially. The units (a pair in the Summer) have managed up until now so I'm waiting to see what is going to happen in regard to fuelling and maintenance.

Recently there was a similar issue affecting the Windsor branch - it might still be in place. Whilst 'they' were thinking about what to do the frequency was cut to conserve fuel. I assume that some way of servicing/fuelling the unit has been found. Thus, there's already a practice run, as it were!

Fuel can be pumped from a road tanker directly into the train using a smaller tanker that is used for domestic deliverys. Our company does it at some freightliner locations every week.

It's a bit like a steam train requiring Water at the trackside / station platform on railtours (except that's usually a fire engine).
I imagine an arrangement can be made to get cleaning done at either end at close of service. Toilets, if there are any, may be a different matter.

The problem is if/when the unit needs an exam, or breaks dow.
That is very true - maybe someone can do an E3 search (is it?) on TRUST for the trapped units to see how long they've got.

Do we know what said issue actually is?

Plus side is that toilets probably aren't really needed for such a short journey, especially with good facilities at St Erth anyway.

It is still in place, 165111 being the “resident” unit. Unit gets fuelled every two days from a road tanker at Slough with fitters in attendance from Reading. There has already been one swap for maintenance purposes but requires a possession to undertake the swap.

So the slough issue swap is workable (given the possession) - would St Ives be the same?
Is it a rail defect issue or movement / locking issue?

The issue at St Erth is the up main to down main crossover so units can still be moved off the branch but have to circulate via Truro, annoying as there used to be another crossover at the East end until a few years back.

Looks like this may be being fixed this week: https://www.gwr.com/~/media/gwr/pdf...ugust-to-friday-6-september-2019-v2.pdf?la=en

Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday – All week, trains between Penzance/St Erth and St Ives will run between St Erth and St Ives only. On Tuesday and Friday only, the 0658 Penzance to St Ives service will run as usual.

RTT is showing that the last St Ives-St Erth trip on the Monday and Thursday nights then runs ECS to Penzance as @RPI suggests reversing at Truro, presumably to do a set swap.
