Anyone heard back since completing the online application? Thank you

I applied November 2018, received confirmation of my application submission straight away, but did not hear anything further until the end of March this year. From then on, things move pretty quick. Start training August 5th.

Hi congratulations on passing all your tests, I was just wondering for stage 1 how did you prepare for the tea occ ? I feel confident with the gb and dfft but I haven't done any practice for the tea occ so that is the test that I am most worried about.
I bought some software called ‘how2become’ train driver. If you go on that website how2become theres a few things that are quite helpful( i found anyways). They are a lot easier them the real thing BUT they get you some practice in. I would offer to send you over the files, but I'm on holiday for 2 weeks, so you might be better off asking around on this forum. Someone will have them

It's nice to see ARL setting up separate categories for NXG & Wilesden this time.
Applied last year, when the role was advertised, and you chose the depot within the application. So I chose Willesden. Passed the psychometrics, only to be told in the DMI that there were only NXG vacancies, which would be a 2hr commute each way for me. It felt like a complete waste of my time and theirs, as they specified to live within 1hr of the depot.

Also, during the testing phase, we were not informed the recruiting HR contact had left ARL. So if we had to email a query, it was left unanswered. I only found out by phoning.

Lastly, after sending me the "unfortunately..." email, it said I could email or phone for feedback. By phone I was told "oh we only give feedback to external candidates, and besides we're very busy". Sent an email request 2 weeks later and it was never replied to. Maybe that person had left too.

The only +ve outcomes were the psychometrics, interview experience, leading to a successful application with another TOC that I felt was more professional and welcoming.

My advice would be to not feel presurrised. The tests you take are all about concentration mostly and they fully explain it to you and give you an example run on the day and make sure you fully understand before it is started. You need to just work quickly and accurately. Dont get flustered and dont expect to get to the end of everything because you wont. Its about being accurate. The beep test isnt so bad just make sure you concentrate, block everything out and focus on the sound.

Hi Guys, I heard from Arriva the outcome of my result.

I failed the first stage of assessment.

Group Bourdon Test : Passed
TEA-OCC : Fail
DFFT : Pass
SJT : -

I really don't understand why they don't say anything for SJT.

When I took my TEA-Occ there was a meeting held next door and the walls are not sound proofing I got distracted and told the assessor in directly. Do you think I can make a complaint?

Thanks

Hi

I have an Trainee Driver stage 1 assessment next week. In the email it says this session will include:
2 concentration tests, a fault finding test and a situational judgement test.

I have read on the forum that stage 1 includes the following:
Group bourdon test
TEA-OCC
DFFT
SJT

How are these linked with the email? Any help would be highly appreciated.

Well the email is linked because there is 2 concentration tests, fault finding and sjt.

GB & tea-occ are concentration.
Dfft is fault finding
Sjt is sjt

The group bourdon especially as it is to enhanced standard.

That is what the 4 dots you need to mark look like.

Fault finding is like the practice tests but a bit more difficult.

Tea occ is counting different tones then circling certain stuff on a page out a phone book then doing both together.

Theres nothing that's most failed on, statistically it may be GBT but each test is as difficult as the next. Don't neglect practicing all test equally just to focus on the more "difficult" assessment.

The group bourdon is in fact the most failed test. Having said that, most toc's and the opc usually make this the first test, so it could be possible that could skew the figures if candidates then don't finish all the other tests, as they may have failed other tests but never know.

Thank you do you have any practice material on this ?

You should have practice materials sent with the invite.
I found the Arriva practice materials more than adequate and passed using them the other thing not sent was the Group Bourbon but they are freely available on this site.

Was this following a DMI or one of the tests?

Has anyone sat a DMI with Srriva recently that could provide me with some help regarding questions asked please?

Hi,
I did a DMI with ARL last year. Mostly standard questions, but also asked me what I knew about the company, routes, what types of trains they run etc. I think they tailor the questions from the personality questionnaire. The 1 I got stuck on was "Give an example when you disagreed with a manager's decision, and what action did you take?"

It's interesting to see what different companies concentrate on. I've just been recruited to Abellio, and they asked me nothing about the company, traction or fleet at all. Just examples from my own experience.

I can’t remeber exactly what questions there were but I do recognise some for example i defo got
A role similar to train driving there was also a question about achieving something (greatest achievement)
Emergency procedure
Working under pressure
Rules and procedures
And if I can remember something along the lines of falling something and overcoming it
Good luck if you get to the MMI umm I would say always relate it to you life experiences defo use STAR so you have structure if you lie and start waffling they’ll start picking you out asking you extra questions they can defo tell

Apologies as this post was a while ago now, but on the greatest achievement question for mmi, do you know if they are looking for a career based answer or would you be scored down for giving a personal/life based answer
