In terms of 150/1s still out in service, I make 8 still to receive PRM mods with a further 4 currently away

With the 150/2 fleet, I have 10 still in service with 2 away presently
Yes that's what I have as I included those in works as still requiring PRM.
I also have
14 156 to PRM and Refresh inc 1 in works
7 158/0 to PRM with 30 to redecorate 2 in works
7 158/9 to PRM and redecorate inc 1 in works
Not long till Dec 31st

Let us wait and see how the four and a half months up to that date see how many units were actually returned to service after being attended to.

I think some might not get done by then but if Northern can get 144s to run past the deadline then I'm sure they will be able to run other stock beyond the deadline aslong as they are coupled to a compliant unit hence it seems Northerns intention to get the 150/1 done ASAP.

From what I understand (from other users on this foeum) that keeping the 144s to send the remaining sprinters for PRM mods is part of the plan anyway. Bearing in mind that there probably will be around 10 units (hopefully) to go for PRM mods after january.
There'll likely be more than one unit in for PRM mods at a time. Im predicting that all of the unmodded trains will be PRM modified and be back in service in March. Please bear in mind that im not including the 323 refurbishmemts as part of this, this is just my assumptions on Sprinter PRM mods

158759 on Leeds to Southport this evening, thought they couldn't run there. Heard it said in here they don't fit through Wigan Wallgate but also heard that they're rare because Southport and Wigan crews don't sign them. No idea which is true but I assume the latter otherwise there'll be a problem in about 2 hours!

As of yesterday 158s are booked to work through to Southport, and Wigan crews have signed them since the May timetable change when the 158s started appearing on the Barrow to Manchester Airport run. (Southport crews are exclusively Merseyrail)

For the record 158842 is currently on its way to Southport and will work the 0608 Wigan Wallgate to Stalybridge tomorrow morning (officially booked attached to a 142)
Meanwhile, anyone for getting back on topic?

For the record its actually Class 153s that aren't cleared to operate to/through Wigan Wallgate, 158s have been cleared for years and used to often operate to Wigan Wallgate in the previous franchise and under Northwestern Trains era.

It's been said several times, 158s are cleared through Wigan Wallgate without restriction, they haven't run that way since FNW days until recently but there is no issue with route clearance. What is an issue is that less than a third of Wigan drivers are passed on 158s so you will find there is a good chance of unit swaps at Manchester Victoria if a 158 makes it on a Leeds-Southport service. There are no Northern traincrew based at Southport, it's a Merseyrail depot.

It is 153s and 155s that cannot fit through Wigan Wallgate. I travelled to Southport on a WYPTE livered 158 around 2004.

Thanks. I wonder if 150 128 has lost it Great western livery or just had PRM mods.

The GWR and original NH 150/1s are having the full mods and going back in plain blue and white livery, think its the former LM ones that are going back in old colours after PRM mods as they got done when they where 3 cars.

I was under the impression that Doncaster just did the PRM mods and occasionally repaint funded by the leasing company with the full refresh following on funded by Northern at Crewe.

As it stands PRM mods are far more important than livery. To refurbish/relivery takes far longer than just doing the important PRM mods which need to be done before the 01/01/20 deadline. There’s only a finite number of units can be out of traffic at any one time.

Once these are complete then there is time to refurbish and relivery the rest that need doing.

Is corporate image more important than accessibility?

Makes sense to me that the paint's being put on hold until the PRM mods are all done.

most of the 158s have had PRM mods done but not had refurb/repaint, just the former scotrail 158s and the 158/9 family that are going for refurb/repaint.
the 323s that will be coming to northern from WMT will have had PRM mods done just not a repaint.

Many of the ex-GWR units were formed up as part of the 3 car Tyseley units. The only ones that left Tyseley earlier were 120/121/123-131 iirc which went to Silverlink 1st. All the rest were displaced by the 172s and either went straight to Northern or to Gw then northern but all were released from LM at the same time so would have had the same work
