Without having to reach anything over 100mph though three should suffice.

In terms of top speed three will be fine but what about acceleration? Four would improve timings and without a real timetable for electrification they might have been the better option with hindsight.

There was supposed to be one train I believe, not a 7 day service from that day.

At least that’s what my last info received stated.

Other users on the forum mentioned Friday, seemed legitimate enough.

Even one set could at least relieve a bit of pressure off the 185 fleet so they can take over services from departing 350/4's. 7-day or not, would be more progress than them just sitting around, not carrying passengers!

But with hindsight, not bothering with the Mk5s would also have been a better idea! I imagine the hope is that the routes the 802s are used on where performance matters would eventually be electrified. There aren't many stops on the main part of the transpennine route so acceleration isn't too important.

Still not quite sure why there testing 802s to Scarborough as there for Liverpool - Edinburgh via York, or is this as backup, just in case or are TPE having a change of mind. Or is it just easier for driver training and pathing.

Easier to obtain paths on Scarborough line hence 802s running up there.

Great pictures Mike. Thanks for coming over to sunny side of the Pennines to bag them!

Where will TPE dump their late running and curtailed North services (those which are deemed too late to reach Liverpool or the Airport) when these are introduced, given that P1 & P2 at Victoria will be too short for the 802s (and the Nova 3, fwiw)?

Are the 802s too short for P1/2 at Man Vic? (Also, FWIW, the Nova 1s ARE the 802s. The Mk5a's are Nova 3s)
