Ears, appreciate your gen. Apologies that I've only picked it up today and therefore couldn't make use of it though.

004 remains elusive.....
Not to worry, life always gets in the way, doesn't it? It's on the other Daventry-Mossend diagram now, but the times of 0035 and 0735 through Stafford are a bit more anti-social...

66791 I believe made it to Longport at the end of July. 792 should be with us before the 'summer' is out as well.

I've caught sight of the 0735 a few times but mainly when I'm on my way out somewhere for the day. Never been motivated enough to just go to the local to see that particular working

791 moved eventually then did it? I'd only seen one working on RTT and that was cancelled and then never saw another one appear so must have snuck through.

I imagine Longport could do with an expansion with all of these locos heading there

Just out of interest, for me to do more Merseyrail and Northern stuff can anyone see any benefit to me using a Lancashire Day Ranger over the Cheshire version? Cost wise they are about the same (taking into account the relevant return ticket I would have to buy and the Merseyrail saver to compliment the Cheshire Ranger) but obviously encompass different places.

So far, I've only been able to come up with a con in that if I did a Cheshire Day Ranger I'd start it with a trip from Piccadilly to Chester behind a 67 and wouldn't be able to do that on the Lancs version

Do the 67. No other consideration needed!

They wont be working out of Manchester for much longer.

I think deep down I knew this was the only option. Manchester to Chester on it and then head into Merseyrail land from there

Stand down, it’s now sat at Mossend as a failure, 008 has taken over :(

Yeah it snuck through relatively unnoticed in the end after a few aborted attempts. Between the 66s and the plethora of 56s being retractioned Longport have certainly got their hands full at the moment.

Evening guys, thought I would offer a small update of my local activity (nothing further afield of late unfortunately). However, the first thing of note is the lack of activity from those I consider the regulars in this section. I hope you are all well and still getting out on the rails (I won't bother naming - I'm sure you know if I'm referring to you).

Anyway, since my last update it's been more of the same with my being restricted to local visits. However on 20th August I spent a day in Prestatyn with my dear old mother and our walk from seafront to town centre took us across the station bridge and on the return journey I was able to spy 150236 departing which was an unexpected winner for the day. The next day I was back on familiar territory as we were blessed with some midweek steam as 70000 "Britannia" came by with a charter from Shrewsbury to Stratford
70000 "Britannia" by The_Train

The loco is a dud but it did allow me to nab the 9 coaches that made up the formation so was a worthwhile venture out. We also had 47815 and 47813 pass by with barrier coaches as they headed to Holyhead and another piece of coaching stock was ticked off. I didn't hang around too much longer after this but I do head back later that day to see 37800 dragging 317504 to Kilmarnock for PRM mods
GA 317504 by The_Train

On the 27th August I was back and walked into the platform to the sight of winning OTM DR73804 but despite spending a few hours there, that was the only winner I got to see. I did pass the time by trying to grab photos of the VTWC units before the franchise ends.

A few days later and a couple of moves on RTT had caught my eye. The first one passed by not so long after I arrived and it was a definite bonus as 66713 edged me a little bit closer to the completion of the GB sheds
GBRf 66713 by The_Train

Yet again though, my good start proved to be as good as it got with the only other joy coming from nabbing more pics of the VTWC stock.

And my most recent wander to the local platforms was earlier today as a Wembley to Polmadie move had piqued my curiosity and thinking it may allow me to grab more CS stock was enough to get me out. Dud 92028 was at the helm of this working but it was coupled to a fully required rake of Mk2 and Mk3 sleeper cars
92028 by The_Train

After this had come and gone, I noticed that a Carnforth to Southall working was on the move as well so decided to hang around for this and it was proven to be a good move when required 37706 appeared with more needed coaching stock
Tractor action by The_Train

And that was my lot. Summary of these few outings below:

For Sight

Winners: 5
Coaching Stock Winners: 25
Classes completed: N/A
Sub classes completed: N/A
TOCs completed: N/A
TOC sub classes completed: N/A

I do finally have some outings planned for September starting with a jaunt to the GCR for their diesel gala on this coming Saturday. Definitely looking forward to that! Then it's a couple of outings into Northern land thanks to their 10p flash sale which sees me heading to Sheffield via Manchester on one outing and then Leeds via Newton Le Willows on another

That flash sale sounded awesome it must be said, bit too far away from me to really take advantage of it. Especially with some of the hours I'm doing lately (5am to 5pm on Friday just gone for example) at work, and I'm doing 6 days a week a lot in recent times, just to finance all my world exploration trips. Going to be like that for ages, probably until January and my 2 weeks off. Crikey by the time I get to that I'll not want to go back to work! So yeah, that's why there's been no real action on my trip report thread for ages, I just haven't really done anything!

I do have a Welsh Pacer farewell trip report to actually type up, that was nearly 2 weeks ago now and I've only got as far as putting the title in it yet. Been binge watching movies and Hell's Kitchen a lot lately when I've not been at work, and as this heap of junk phone I've currently got (my other one was playing up so had to get a basic smartphone for now) can't do split-screen apps like my Samsung phone could, I'm not able to blast out tunes and type up my report at the same time. So there's also been a lack of desire to type it up!

I have also had a few mini-sessions of beer-ticking and IET hunting in recent months as well, but they're hardly worth typing a report for! As for why others of the regular report writing community have been quiet, I don't know. I do believe the honourable gentleman better known as Kite159 is taking a sabbatical from the forum at the moment, but he is very much still very active on the rails.

Anyway, nice to see you're still about and getting bits and bobs scored at the local. Like you I can't afford to do much, but our time will soon be here and we'll both be back with a vengeance! I hope to do my report from that trip to Cardiff at some point this week, and next week I jet off to Budapest for a short break so there will be reports from that too. It will be my first world exploration trip since March, and I'm fighting off Holiday Mode at work! I'm packed and ready to go already, can't wait to be on the 0642 to Paddington next Monday! :D

I look forward, as always, to hearing more of your adventures soon!

To be honest, I've not been on the forum as much just lately and it definitely seems like I'm not the only one. Definitely sounds like you've been leading a very busy life though. All of the work will be worth it when you're on that jet heading off to see the world. I'm lead to believe that Budapest is one of the nicest cities in the world so I'm sure that will be a good outing and I certainly look forward to that report.

Good to see your pen for the book of sights is still continuing :)

That 317 in Scotland looks odd

Yeah, still slowly ticking locos off at the local and hopefully my Northern trips will get more units cleared.

The 317 was a strange sight up this way. Seems strange to me that they are travelling such a distance for their PRM mods

And I believe it's only part mods to cover for the delays before the new stock starts to arrive for GA. I guess Wabtec (?) in Kilmarnock gave the best quote, and with Doncaster being busy with Mk3 coaches (and other stuff) they sent it to Kilmarnock to see what needs to be done. Like the 155 which disappeared for nearly a year it will be a while before the first comes back out

Good Evening Mr Train.I hope your well squire?
I've been far too busy to get near a railway line and especially with the 6 weeks school holidays, i had 2 weeks with my daughter, just odd days out here n there, needless to say I'm skint.
Last thing I saw and ID'd was 800110 on test about a about a month ago. Glad to see your still roping in a few though mate. It's good to see the old sleeper stock still being used but its the new sleeper stock i need. Will I have to bite the bullet and do some overnighters to rope em in, one time I wouldn't have had a problem with it, now I think, God do I really want or have to o_O. No pic of the 47s?(boo hiss)

Good Luck in Budapest. Plenty to see rail-wise. Railway Museum. Metro Line 1, Tram line 50 is actually a cog-railway into the Buda Hills and the Children's railway down the other side and a tram from the bottom back into the city.

If you are over 65 and an EU citizen (obviously a time limited offer for us in the UK) you get free travel on the trams and I think on the trains but I understand you have to pre-book a seat on the trains for a small fee.

I don't think it's Wabtec. The working was to the Bonnyton depot and I'm not so sure that is Wabtec but I may be wrong? Either way, it must have been a good quote to be cheaper than others considering there will be the added cost of hauling the units up to Scotland.

Are you still getting out and about at weekends mate? This Saturday will only be my 2nd railway outing on a weekend as I tend to leave it for weekdays so it will feel weird I think. I've done so little travel at weekends recently that I even had to double (and triple) check that off-peak tickets on Saturday pretty much equate to an anytime ticket in the week

It happens in the summer mate, especially for those with young 'uns. Hope you've enjoyed your outings though?

There seems to have been an upsurge in sleeper ECS moves in the day just lately which has allowed me to nab at least a few of the Mk2s and Mk3s. I think at some point I will have to get out in the night to try and get the Mk5s....will probably wait until they get over the teething problems though. Would be annoying to get out in the early hours only to find it cancelled  I'd actually like to experience a trip on it as well but it's just so expensive compared to regular travel!

As for the 47s I was on P3 and they were pathed into the goods loop so I couldn't get a decent shot of them and I was nattering with someone so decided against wandering across for a pic as I've already got a couple of shots of each of them. It's sacrilegious to ignore a duff I know but we did stop talking to listen to the beautiful sounds of their departure :E

Aye, I'm still getting out and about at weekends, even had a week on the rails over August. My reports are posted on my blog (https://kitespotterings.blogspot.com/) if you fancy some bedtime reading :)

So, GCR tomorrow then. I've worked out my planned moves, but that is likely to go out the window!

If it all goes to plan, I will manage to avoid the Duff :D

That's a disgrace  @47403 will be spitting feathers when he sees that haha.

I've also planned my moves. Managed to fit everything in bar the 50 which I'm a bit annoyed about but I've accepted it on the basis that it is GCR based so wouldn't be too difficult to enjoy it another time (and because it took me ages to plan everything and then I realised I'd missed it out)

Just been planning my journey home actually - going to be a long day if I get in everything I've got planned!

What is your first planned move?

I'm starting on the 37 on the first run of the day. After I get that in the book I can relax! The 37 + 50 double headed run should be entertaining.

To be fair the 37 is the main reason I'm going so I hope to be on the first run of the day as well. The double header is probably too good to turn down as well so I will undoubtedly be making some amendments on the journey down in the morning haha

Theres nee need for that like but each to their own. I like the idea of the 37 and 50 double heading myself, that sounds like a great bit of fun. Have a great day you two.

Absolutely love that 2nd picture mate. A scene we can only dream of these days......I hate the modern world haha.

Anyway, I've stretched my day to the max I can without giving me no way of getting home so I can have a good run behind the 47.

You still considering the SVR next month?
