Wales are playing England at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff today in a warm up match prior to the Rugby World Cup with an afternoon kick off. It will be interesting to see how the crowds going home afterwards are catered for as there are mass cancellations of Cardiff Valley services due to train crew shortages in addition to TFW's ongoing shortage of units. Additionally, there are no LHCS services from the North because, by putting 2 and 2 together, due to a shortage of crews, a situation which has persisted through the resulting in cancellations/curtailments of Chester and North Wales Coast services.

Is the class 37 running on the Rhymney line today to free up extra units for strengthening on rugby trains?
Is the WAG/loco hauled train running today to provide extra capacity for the rugby?

Thinking outside the box... TfW chartered a steam train to run to Bleanau Ffestiniog last week, how about chartering one for rugby matches at Cardiff, maybe not but a diesel loco and coaches could be chartered.

Or is the reality that TfW don’t have enough staff to operate the advertised timetable, let alone extra trains.

There are significant improvements to Sunday services planned from December, where are all the staff coming from. Will Sunday working be ‘voluntary’ meaning swathes of cancellations, just like a Northern?

Massive amounts of training taking place at the moment. At least 2 guards courses and 1 drivers course in the North alone. I know there's at least 1 guards course running in the South at the moment as well and I suspect a driver's course. That's on top of numerous courses throughout the year - the trainees from which are just finishing their on the job training and should be out productive very soon.

The 37s are not out because, for one thing, the nature of their contract and can only run at the peaks Mondays to Friday.

Why do the 37s only run on Monday to Friday peak times?

Surely these events in Cardiff are planned months in advance can’t the ‘contract’ include event days and maybe Saturdays in the run up to Christmas?

Just come across this. I don't see the connection of class 37s with this Infrastructure and Stations thread.

I suspect 1600-2000 Sunday might impact more travellers, taking both directions into account, than 2000-2359 Saturday.
Or it may of course be that the resources are spoken for on Sunday evening?
Mind you, if I were TfW I might think about having buses at Cardiff Central...
