Everyone has their gripes, but gwr pays well and I feel valued. Obviously the work wildly varies on depot so that would depend on where you ended up.

I’ve worked for SWR and more recently started with GWR. As CiderDrinker said, everyone has their gripes, but from what I’ve experienced so far they seem good as employers. What I have noticed in the couple of months I’ve been without GWR is they seem overly more organised with the recruitment process as SWR were when I started with them (I did start with SWR when they were SWT a fair few years ago, but from what I’ve experienced with recruiting staff myself, they seem wholly disorganised). Little things like receiving a temporary travel pass well in advance of my start date, and having the contracts sent out in good time, as well as having a ‘welcome pack’ easily completed via their online portal, all speaks volumes as far as I’m concerned (Admittedly, as SWR are part of FirstGroup now I’d imagine they also have the welcome packs).

Thanks for the replies ive been offered a Job with GWR but it would mean moving away from my family, I was thinking that it would give me the opportunity eventually to move down to Cornwall and take the family with me but I dont know if thats realistic because it might take a long time to get that move plus all the time I am away I would be paying for digs, thats why its important to know what kind of a company they are.

I know for new trainees it’s 2 years productive before you can even apply to move, I imagine it is the same for qualified drivers coming across, so 2 years plus however long the queue is

There is no queue as such anymore for depots in Cornwall, there are so many vacancies that once you have done the productive two years you shouldn't have to wait too long for a move west.

So the job I have been offered is in the training college and I have to say I was really impressed by all the staff there they were so nice and really proactive and just so positive I could not fault them one bit , I have been a driver for 11 years at a different TOC that really they are not so good with their staff/driver relations and I am looking towards my slide to retirement, regardless of what I do I, personally really respect the people I meet at GWR and if they are all like that It is a credit to the company.

If I were you I’d consider holding out and applying for a job in Cornwall, what you want will come up eventually. Sounds to me like being away from the family and staying in digs isn’t worth it.
Just my opinion

They currently want qualified drivers in Plymouth, par and penzance as it's on the vacancy list online at the moment
