Appearance standards at depots

Hi all

Long time reader, first time poster.

Am currently progressing an application for maintenance support and just wondered if anyone could confirm the policy about standards of appearance at depots re; tattoos/piercings.

I don’t have any visible tattoos but I do have a pierced ear and a nose ring. Obviously I can remove these anyway, but forewarned is forearmed and all that. Thanks in advance.

I don’t think there will be any issue. As long as it’s not offensive obviously, tattoos are far more acceptable these days, rightly so too. In a Depot especially, I can almost certainly say this won’t be an issue. Even in customer facing roles tattoos are more acceptable. If you were doing a manual job in a depot, you’d probably have to remove rings from nose/ears etc for H&S reasons potentially.

At interview I advise you wear any rings in moderation and don’t let them alter how smart you are (first impressions and all that).

It’s a good question to ask at interview. As long as you’re happy to comply with the answer. I once knew of a lad that jumped off a flatbed lorry and caught his wedding ring in the side, only the bone stayed on his hand! So if it’s a health and safety issue, they might need removing. I see no issues with them cosmetically though.
