Had my medical 2 weeks ago with southeastern and haven’t heard anything yet, is this normal? How long does it usually take to get results? Thanks

I got my results within a week. You could always give them a follow up call.

I had my medical with Southeastern 1 months ago, it took 48hours to get the drug screening results and the all clear. You need to chase them up.

May depend on the company. I've never had any formal notification I've "passed" a medical either before or after I joined. If there had been an issue I'm sure they would have already been in contact.

They may not tell you the results if the medical was following a conditional offer of employment. I’d imagine the next stage for most with be the formal offer. They may only get back to you regarding the medical if there’s a problem with it.

I didn’t hear back from my pre-employment medical. If there was an issue, you’d have heard by now.

Thanks for all the replies, just getting on to see them now, been nearly 3 weeks now and haven’t heard anything yet, I know they’ll be clear coz I’ve never taken anything, just would like it confirmed as it was a conditional offer of employment and I have an offer with another company which I don’t want to turn down if there’s any issue with SE. I did call last week and they said they hadn’t had results back yet so not sure whether to give them another call at the end of this week as the other company want me to start on 2nd and I really want to go to SE!!

I didn’t realise this, I thought they contacted you and let you know either way. Thanks for the info

I asked first....

SE does not have the greatest of reputations. They are also being severely underpaid in the driving grade and its leading to an increasingly low morale. A lot of people do not see a stable future either. Lots of rumor and speculation on the future of Southeastern isn't helping either.

My options are Arriva and SE. Arriva pay more however I prefer the routes that SE run. When I went for my assessments and interview SE made me feel like they actually wanted me to be part of their team whereas Arriva was very clinical and I was just a name on a page. DB group is looking to sell Arriva so there’s no certainty with them about what will happen after that. I’ve not heard anything about the future of SE?

The SE depot I’ve been assigned to is easier for me to reach than the Arriva depot. This is my dream job and I’m so happy I have the opportunity, I feel very lucky to have 2 offers and I want to choose the one I feel I will be happier at. My first instinct was to take Arriva because they pay more but when I look at the bigger picture my gut tells me il be happier at SE and to me that’s the most important thing. Either one the pay imo is great and I’d rather take the lesser paid one if it means il be happier in my job as I plan to be there for a long time.

Ring the Medicentre directly and chase up your results. As you have a offer on the table you are time sensitive. Certainly push SE a little too.

Being happy at work is a big priority and the grass isn't always greener. SE lost another Driver to London Overground recently (literally last week) :(

I’ve just been reading the ‘****hole driver room’ post on here and I’m wondering if I’m as informed as I thought I was :|

Lots of complaints about the atmosphere at Victoria which is the depot I would be at :'( not sure what to do now!!

Vic is also changing. They are expanding to become a very large depot (circa 100 Drivers) and they are going towards a metro depot. There is some discussion to get a few mainline routes but that is ongoing and with the changes at Orpington it may impact Vic and other depots as work gets reshuffled. There is a pay deal currently in the process. Vic is actively recruiting so you have a high chance of getting a space on a course for next year or potentially late this year.

Either way the clock is ticking on your Arriva application. You need to chase up SE/Medicentre.

That kinda implies your medical is cleared :)

If your already booked on a course then you should accept and get ready to start your journey.

If you’ve been offered a start date my personal view is you’d be silly to pass up the opportunity regardless of what the TOC is like to work for. If you have two start dates on the table, then of course you have the choice, but if it’s just the one with no guarantee of the other, you might regret turning down any offer and may not get another.

I’ve got start dates for both, both are providing I pass the medical and haven’t received results from either one. I was told on the day at both that I passed everything they did there and I just had to wait for drug results (which I know will be clear) just want it confirmed before I turn down either offer

Go for the better pay. I know ya said you’d rather be happy, but after 3 years you’ll be driving past other TOCs thinking..... that ****’s on more money than me and does half the work! The routes are all the same and that “better” one you envisaged becomes as boring as any other. I drive the much loved north wales coast and it gets on my nerves after the 8th trip of the week. I’ve read that messroom thread too and vic sounds awful.

Haha you’re right, was the same with the routes when I was bus driving!! That messroom thread really put me off but I’m so glad I read it coz I’d be so upset to go there and discover how bad it is!! Signed my contract with ARL and taking it to the office today :)

Just wondering, did southeastern eventually get in touch to let you know if you passed the medical or did you contact them?
