TP11 leaving York this afternoon.
The Mk5a coaches look fantastic inside and out, a really top quality ‘InterCity’ feel to them.

Best wishes to all involved with their introduction into service:)

Just don't hold your breath, or you might expire before you get a ride in one... I shall only believe they are in service when they are actually running - and allowing the doubling up of all the services still worked by DMUs.
I really can't understand this breathless trainspotter excitement, when there should have been 2 Mk 3 sets in use for 2 years now. Please remember, these sets are several years late and now we are even having the unacceptably-short DMU services cancelled to allow crew-training runs to happen.
I avoid TPE journeys if there is any possible way of avoiding them nowadays, which is most unfortunate as I ought to be travelling to W Yorkshire more often than I have ever needed to.

The first one was taken here so that's still available (though during the day that bridge is often very busy with cars and lorries so I wouldn't recommend a long visit!). The second will have taken a bit further along the wall here so is also available (and probably nicer to wait at for a while). The third I suspect is here (you can see the Transporter Bridge if you zoom in) but the vegetation is about as well developed currently as it is on Street View from last year so nowhere near as good of a shot. The fourth I suspect was taken on a train approaching Middlesbrough from the Saltburn direction just before the station. There's been a lot of redevelopment around there in the last few years and I suspect that shot is no longer possible.

Hope that helps someone!

Well that will certainly help me, thanks very much,
as i will certainly make a photo trip over there when the TPE service gets up and running properly.
Those first 2 places look really promising.
I had forgot about it but further West along the line from that first Street View position you can also see the Lift Bridge, which in itself is quite something, so hopefully combine both iconic bridges with the railway in a trip there.

Repeated internal mutterings and messroom banter suggests that a Mk5 set will run in passenger service this friday 23rd august. Now I haven't seen anything internally to substantiate this, maybe @PennineSuperb or @BMIFlyer can corroberate or deny this as they are in higher pecking order positions than me. I'm rest day Friday so that being the case I'm going to head south and board it somewhere

Can’t see there being any commercial or confidentiality issues.....

From my ‘breathless trainspotter’ observations, there seem now to be a fair number of staff trained up on the Nova 3 sets.

Certainly NOT Friday, but will happen soon.

Not allowed to say anything else, sorry.

It's more of "say anything and you can potentially invalidate your employee contract" (get fired).

We do know the plans, but have been told to keep quiet.

On the day it happens, you'll certainly know about it that's for sure :E

It seems that ‘Glasnost’ has yet to reach the upper echelons of TPE;)

It’s interesting to see how the different operators work. LNER were shouting about the Azuma introduction weeks in advance. Even their ‘press launch’ at York with Mallard on 30th July was very enthusiast/general public friendly (trainspotters even had a better view of Mallard than the invited guests).

I’m not saying that one approach is better or worse than the other, no doubt the TPE management have their reasons for a ‘soft launch’, especially if there’s some fluidity in the date.

I think ‘West Yorkshire Day Saver’ tickets are going to be popular that day at Huddersfloof;)

Personally I'm in the belief that the current "lets not announce an entry into service day, but we will just throw the train into a diagram using staff now trained on it on xx date" is better than...

A public announcement of "The class 68 sets will enter service on xx date", only then for a last minute change due to a tech failure and it leaves everyone disappointed as it hasn't run - along with relative anger from commuters echoing the thoughts of the cranks who are left fuming.

A surprise appearance in passenger service on a set day only known internally by those in the project and said staff trained on the new fleet might actually be a good thing for the new trains program. ;)

As for the Hitachi and 397 fleets, well that might be different.

Can I reiterate that although I am a front line employee of TPE I am not in any official channel and I am not passing on official information that is not authorised to share. I haven't been given any such information to share anyway as no one official has told me anything, much to my frustration!

All of my comments and posts are based on my own observations and through general conversation with other colleagues and with other enthusiasts networking and sharing gen and gossip that is otherwise in the public domain. What I have seen, heard and been told has been proven to be incorrect which makes me not a reliable enough source.

My observations and comments does not represent any opinion of the company or divulge any sensetive company information.

Plenty staff getting itchy feet dying to try out the new trains....

We wait with baited breath! XD

It still hasn't really registered that loco hauled trains are returning to TPE services. As a young 19 year old in 1991, it felt like the world was ending when the cascaded ScotRail 47s finished on these routes. So it's no wonder that I'm watching this thread every second of the day hungry for info.... Dare I say it that I might feel poorly on the chosen day and not be able to attend work..

Class 68 driver instructor runs
I’ve listed below the TPE operated Driver Instructor runs so far. I’ve starred the four trains that have operated over the entirety of the core route.

As always, best wishes to all who are working on introducing the Nova 3 trains, I’m sure they are going to be a huge hit with passengers and enthusiasts alike:)
