Hello, I've noticed recently some of the stations on the Argyle & North Clyde lines have had their announcers replaced.

Such as at Partick where announcer used to be Fiona:

And has now been replaced by the one who announces over in the East and on the South Glasgow stations:

Does anyone know if this is a full replacement of the system or if a select few stations are to get it?

If people are interested, I could keep a list of what stations have had their announcements replaced.

Personally I prefer Fiona as it is much more clearer and smoother.

The previous recordings at the Waverley were done by Juliet, the station manager.
Ah, I did wonder about that as I much preferred the Haymarket announcements.

Is that due to Edinburgh Waverley being a Network Rail station rather than ScotRail? I imagine you'd have a similar list of destination requirements at Haymarket.

Juliet didn’t have the stations via Glasgow Queen Street Low Level

She simply said

“Bathgate and stations to Milngavie/Helensburgh via Airdrie and Glasgow.”

The station announcements used at Haymarket is known as "Scottish Female".
Fiona auto-announcements at Bridgeton have been replaced with "Scottish Female" the past fortnight.

The announcing from Helensburgh/Balloch/Milngavie to Springburn/Airdrie/Rutherglen is being upgraded. It will all eventually have the same voice again.

Will this eventually apply to the Ayrshire Coast and stations north of Dunblane?

When people say Fiona, is this a different announcer to Alison who is/was at Aberdeen, Glasgow Central low level etc and is the professional voice of Scotrail’s Ditra system?

The new system is Siemens based and is indeed known as ‘Scottish Female’

I'd like to know that as well, as far as I knew Alison McKay was the older ScotRail announcer.

She has a railway sample on her website that sounds identical to the voice at Exhibition Centre so I think it is her, probably just that she’s been given a different name!

It’s an interesting comparison, with three different systems/voices at Scotrail stations and possibly 2-3 on Scotrail’s trains, compared to Wales where you get Ruth for virtually everything!

I suppose there's no harm in the variety, but Alison was always the best. The other announcers sound rather downbeat and muffled if anything.

Thanks for the update, I prefer the new voice and I hope it comes to the ayrshire lines soon

I always thought the newer one sounded utterly depressed, while the older one was both clearer spoken and with a more positive tone generally.
