Good afternoon, I just wondered if any of you have come across an error code 5B00 on a printer.? I have entered this code and done all the suggested things to reset, but no no avail. I could take it to a repair shop, but it would probably be cheaper to buy a new printer, which does seem rather a shame. I have had it for 2 to 3 years I think. It is a 3 in one, printer, copier and scanner and none of those functions are working now. Many Thanks.

If it's a Canon, it's caused by ink spillages within the machine.

Specifically, though, what type of printer is it? As in make and model?

Have you tried the manufacturers website? They normally have a troubleshooting section and you might be able to find out what the code means there. You might even be able to email their support.

Yes but it did not cure the problem. They advise to take it to a service centre.

Yes I think it may be an ink problem. It is a Cannon MG 2950.
It's not really an ink problem - it's saying that the waste ink pad may be full. It doesn't measure it, it just keeps a counter of how often it has been used and guesses, so it may not actually be full.
There are different methods of resetting the counter, I don't know what you need for your printer - youtube may be able to help. You may need to download some (possibly dodgy) service software to reset the counter.
(If it is actually full, and you just reset the counter without replacing / cleaning the ink pad, then things will get messy!)

None of these worked, so it's off to the shops next weekend. :(

Thanks for all your suggestions though.

A final thought before you do - fully switch it off, unplug it and then remove the BIOS battery from the printer for a few minutes. It might have "killer" software installed and removal of all the power can sometimes re-set it.

Ok, thanks, I will give that a try.
