I know these are to stop glare as part of a trial, but does anybody have any photos?

Maybe if it extended down below the drivers door and the side of the buffers it would look better, it looks a bit odd with the white below the drivers door.

Was glare an issue on some of the old sponsored liveries (which I believe looked similar in background to their current one)? I presume FCC livery was dark enough not to be an issue

When I first heard of this new livery, it was a Train Simulator 2019 reskin, and I thought it was some sort of Northern trains livery. The purple on the front sort of reminds me of their blue.

As the original poster has stated, the treatment has been carried out on two units thus far on a trial basis to prevent glare against DOO monitors.

365511 & 539 are the two units. Had the privilege of working them off of Hornsey into King’s Cross with 524 in the middle of the consist.

They don't use platform monitors...
Cool, I thought it might be that - all is in the cab?

Strange it took this long in the white livery and the majority withdrawal of the fleet before they address it, but continuous improvement and all that.

Did you experience any difference at DOO mirrors? Or were they not part of the movement?

Unfortunately not part of the movement for me to make a comparison. However, I did have two 365’s earlier on today and the glare at Knebworth was rather quite bad, but apparently this has been a long standing issue which is now being rectified, the colour blue which features on the doors was allegedly considered but infringes with DDA .

If i get the units next week, I will cast my observations.

OK. Thanks. Sometimes it's good to hear these sort of things from the drivers, as it gives you a good idea of how the units are perceived by those who operate them!

Is there a significance of the purple instead of - say, black? At least considerations have been made to keep the angles of the livery.

my guess is probably because its a 'known' good colour as it comes from a previous livery, rather than risking something different and it not working?

Looks like it's just the alternative colour from the blue in the Great Northern logo

It’s the Great Northern purple, same colour as in the logo.

For those saying about the white area under the cab - this is grey on the other end and on other units. I suspect this is from a previous repair to the unit, hopefully this will be changed to grey to match the rest now it stands out so much.

I'm pretty sure the logo has different shades of blue, but that will turn into an argument such as whether the FirstGroup livery is purple or dark blue.

It's purple.

Whilst clearly the colour is, to any right thinking person what it says in your spoiler, the branding guidelines name the "purple" "FirstGroup Blue" (page 16). But then that same page calls the pink "FirstGroup Rubine Red", which shows that as ever corporate branding people live in a very weird world unlike the one we inhabit.

Have you driven this unit yet? If so was there any difference?

Sorry for the lack of update, I've not driven a 365 since I had the pair a few weeks ago, was supposed to last week but was moved off my booked turn to cover 700 & 717 work. I have 365's on Saturday Night & Sunday Morning so hopefully, I get at least one of those units to share my comments.

Is anybody able to explain the glare problem?

Sunlight reflects off the white livery and this then reflects off the glass of the platform monitors, meaning you can't see much that they are displaying. Not as much of an issue when the train is a darker colour.

When people who work on the railway say things move slowly - to give you an idea, drivers asked for this as a possible solution to the problem three years ago.

365530 has now acquired aubergine vinyls in addition to 511 and 539, plus the newly repainted white cab roof (seen working this morning's 1R11 0812 Baldock to King's Cross with 365506). Several other 365s have had their roofs repainted including white cabs but have not (yet) acquired the aubergine vinyls...
