Greene King, the UK's largest pub retailer and brewer, is based in Bury St Edmunds. One of their major brews is Old Speckled Hen, which is a popular bitter, available both as a cask ale and pasteurised in bottles. It was first brewed in 1979 by Morland Brewery of Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

In Hampshire, in the Test Valley, there are two hamlets with the name of Upton.

The founding editor of the medical journal, The Lancet, Thomas Wakley, was born at Membury in 1795. The youngest son, Thomas attended the Grammar School at Chard.

The Wolf Burn is a small stream, which runs from a suspect subterranean source behind the Ormlie housing estate in Thurso, to its issue by Burnside, Caithness.

Perhaps a moment to reflect upon the above extract from the rules of this quiz.
It has been the custom since then for nothing concerning railways to appear in postings made on the Settlement Association Quiz.

What the rules appear to say is that the Station Association quiz should be kept railway related, not that we aren't allowed to mention railways in this one … however:
Thurso FC will play Halkirk United next Saturday in the North Caledonian League.
