Pretty much perfectly plugging some of the gaps in the drastically thinned out XC service...

Anyone travelling on the 07:45 from York possibly all the way to Penzance booked in Coach F and Quiet Coach G can't access their seats because these coaches are locked out of use.

From looking at Twitter, this was supposed to be one of the 2 LNER HST's but was a XC one instead.

I'm quite gutted to have missed the chance to come to Birmingham New Street to watch one of the LNER sets - I missed out as XC hadn't confirmed it til a few days before. Presumably I'm guessing XC didn't have time to put these into their systems?*

*Back in 2008, they hired 2 then NXEC HST's and were able to let passengers book a seat on these but not with the 2 hired LNER HST's before today.

It'll be interesting to see how well the 8-coach HST's keep to the timetable. I understand they're 8 instead of 9 because of the size of the platforms but how come they've hired 9-car HST's before?

1V46 and 1V50 were the LNER diagrams. Which have no reservations throughout.

On 1V50 which is 30 Late. Plenty of seats and a full buffet. Coach D has no lighting so is pretty much empty.

There is some gibbering on YouTube about some more use of LNER sets on BH Monday, is there any truth to this or is it just mutterings

Am I right in thinking that the LNER HSTs were simply replacing the XC ones on the same diagrams? If so, what is the point? Why not just run the normal XC sets?

6 hsts in total for XC services. Doubling voyagers on other routes. Shame RMT ruined this for today.

Thanks - that makes more sense than simply substituting HST sets. How likely is it that these operations will be repeated in future?

Well. I've just had the unfortunate finding out (via realtime trains) that my Quiet Coach window table seat reservation for the 18:03 from Birmingham New Street to Leeds on the 29/09/19 won't exist as there's a diversion between Taunton and Bristol Temple Meads, extending journeys by an hour on the South West to Scotland services. Therefore this effects the XC HST diagrams. 20/08/19 I booked these and was given the seating layout for the XC HST's and I actually clicked on the seat in the Quiet Coach.

So it sounds like short notice engineering works have been announced which isn't great. If that 18:03 is expected to be a single Voyager set then that's gonna be fun and anyone with a reservation for the HST is not going to be impressed, especially if standing outside a toilet!

Interestingly, the inward working from Laira depot (13.06) into platform 7 at Plymouth North Road ( to form 13.25 to Edinburgh) is shown as HST. So, your guess is as good as anybody’s!!

Right, thanks. It wouldn't be the first time realtime trains is incorrect regarding the 13:25 from Plymouth on the 29/09/19 - I was seeing the same departures from Edinburgh / York to Plymouth which showed to be an HST all week or all but one of the weekdays - 06:45 from York and the 13:07 from Edinburgh. Incorrect that is. We shall see.

I've sent an email to XC Customer Relations this morning and just waiting for a response - we shall see!

it’s a voyager. Hst was on 0925 Penzance to Dundee 1125 from Plymouth. That was meant to be a hst. No hsts availability in laira.
