1.Do you only drive trains on simulators because the line isn't open?
2. When and how long is your traction training?
3. If you don't drive trains, does it mean that you just sign on and go home?
4. Do you also work nights?
5. How long does it take mod 6? Do you have to share your instructors or do front and turns to wait for them being available?

Thnx for any info

1.Do you only drive trains on simulators because the line isn't open?

No. You drive real trains either between Liv St and Shenfield or Paddington and Hayes/Heathrow.

2. When and how long is your traction training?

From memory it was about the 3rd or 4th module we covered and lasted about 3 or 4 weeks.

3. If you don't drive trains, does it mean that you just sign on and go home?

Not applicable as you will be. If spare you book on and sit waiting for any assigned duties.

4. Do you also work nights?

Most depots have a night turn or two. But these are typically either positioning/prepping trains or the like. One depots night turn involves working the last train, prepping some units then working the first train. They currently only come up about 3 or 4 times a year.

5. How long does it take mod 6? Do you have to share your instructors or do front and turns to wait for them being available?

I'm not sure what mod 6 is. Is that your 1st lot of practical handling? If so, I haven't seen any drivers sharing an instructor for a while now. It seems to be one to one. A lot of drivers took the opportunity to become instructors so I don't think that's an issue. You would typically do more front end turns at the beginning of your training during module 2. I think this takes as long as it takes to get the needed hours.

Thnx for any info

I've put the details above. I hope that helps a bit.
