How about not bothering with another unit between Ely and Cambridge and run a Ely to Kings Cross or Liverpool Street instead of terminating at Cambridge
GA do this with their Liverpool Street services in the peaks, with some of the trains also continuing to run as a shuttle between Cambridge and Ely before departing to London, or after arriving from London, depending on direction. Which makes it all the more strange that they're (potentially, if RTT is correct) cancelling one of those shuttles from December.

755413 on this morning's 0633 Norwich - Cambridge failed at Brandon with engine problems. Service terminated at Brandon. Still stood there over 90 minutes later. Down services towards Ely diverted via the up line at Brandon station.

GTR already do that (with 8-car trains normally for the Ely terminators) - it's GA's stupidly cheap 'GA only' fares between Cambridge and Ely that are creating a rod for GA's own back...

I’m surprised more people don’t try it on seeing as GTR are DOO.

Been told they keep failing, short set is still out and about

They're about to lose a couple of 170s so if this continues next week should be 'interesting'.

Ipswich to Felixstowe has already been shut down for the moment due to lack of trains and many other rural services cancelled today.

Here's a good look at the new trains from Geoff Marshall. I must say they look very impressive. A huge improvement to Northern's new 195/331s.

Ipswich to Felixstowe usually shuts down due to congestion at the port, the port has priority over passenger trains on that route

They have to give some excuse to the passengers why the trains are cancelled as if they told them their train was cancelled to run a freight train the passengers will go beserk

Your probably right today though, where are the two 170s going

On another note Hutchinson Ports keep wanting to buy the line and stop passenger services completely, this keeps cropping every now and again

Nothing to do with the Port today, simply a dearth of serviceable units, although the pass service does get cancelled sometimes due to the freight running late, but the little ol' tin rocket can get in the way preventing a speedy recovery of all services.

Is anyone able to help with the 755 workings for tomorrow. I have seen post 3373 above but the NC73 diagram does not seem to fit with what is shown on RTT for tomorrow. The 15:35 NRW-CBG does not seem to be worked by the incoming unit from Lowestoft arriving at 15:33 as shown on NC73

I would like to see one of the GA services from Liverpool Street to Cambridge North extended to Ely, it would improve connectivity south to north of Cambridge. But I suspect it will only be possible once the Kings Cross to Ely service is extended to Kings Lynn thereby no longer occupying Platform 3 at Ely for an extended period.

The 06:40 Norwich to Cambridge is now 26min late and will terminate at Ely. Is it the booked 755 FLIRT or another unit?

I dont think they will be extended to Lynn,

They are just going to extend the platforms and run 8 car trains

Extending the Elys to Kings Lynn is very much a local stakeholder aspiration once Ely North Jn/Ely area is sorted out (i.e. not for a while yet).

But yes, the only firm improvement in the shorter term is 8-car operation to Kings Lynn (which can't come soon enough at certain times of day)

something to do with the PA / PIS being faulty or not set up ?

On the plus side only one 170 departing tomorrow, GA hanging onto to 270 I understand.

Yesterdays issue at Brandon was apparently a door interlock fault. System showed door not locked properly but staff checked it was okay. Unit would not take power.
Today the DOO cameras have failed. But unit still in service.

Wow...stunning acceleration in diesel mode. 0 to 60mph in 57 seconds. 0 to 90mph in 121 seconds. The new king of diesel performance!!
And sorry to say it but the noise of those 4 no V8 Deutz diesel engines - however glorious - is very noticeable - intrusive in fact - on full chat when sitting in the seats nearest the power car. Nowhere near as silent as the coach nearest a HST power car

The 2nd FLIRT diagram seems to have been canned
755418 should have been heading out forming the 9.59 Norwich to Gt Yarmouth but is now heading back from Norwich to Cambridge forming the 09.38.

Not sure what's forming the 09:59 as looks to be still running. There is a dire shortage of drivers today & lack of those Stadler trained will cause further unit swapping issues no doubt.

Sorry should have said .. Stowmarket UP platform. So the Bimodes will switch there then?.. exciting.

Meanwhile on the other platform the change to diesel reminder. Although it is a sign for the drivers and it won't be lost on them, I wonder if they will bother to correct the spelling of "Edmonds" ?
