Hi All,

Sorry if this has been asked before in a thread. I just wanted some advice. I recently applied for a job with network rail, did the online assessment and face to face interview which I passed I received my formal offer pack roughly 2 weeks ago, filled out some occupational health questionnaires.Do you guys know how long it takes to get a start date? I am still waiting to do a medical as well?
I've heard network rail HR is quite slow.

any info is much appreciated

Thank you all

It's been talked about dozens of times in the Signaller thread, from interview it's maybe a month or so before you'll get a medical appointment arranged. Once this is completed, which includes your drugs and alcohol test you'll get a result in a few weeks to let you know your medical has been passed without any concerns.

Once this is all out of the way they will ask you for a preferred start date, you can give them a date and then they'll try and get you a signalling school start date. This can be months and months because they are short of training school places. We are talking about training start dates sometime in 2020 for most folk so 4+ months away.

What might takes weeks with most recruitment processes can and will take months with Network Rail, this mostly relates to Signalling roles. Thankfully other roles can be quite a bit quicker but it's a glacial process.

What role did you apply for?

Hi SoupG886,

Hopefully things will not take near as long as it would for Signalling or other safety critical roles.

I'd hope for the Customer Service Assistant Role the station managers would have a bit more abilty to get the ball rolling but then again Network Rail is very centralised for HR, funnily enough based out of Manchester.

The only real advice I can give is keep in touch with them via E-Mail and be patient, for most people a job with Network Rail is well worth the wait.

I has an email from HR on Tuesday saying that they were waiting on results from my medical and if I've passed will move on to the next stage of onboarding, but I haven't had one? All I've done is fill out a questionnaire form regarding my health. Is that the only medical that I have to do? As I've read from other posts about drug and alcohol tests but I haven't been invited to attend one
