385s really should be put on Ayr to allow Largs to double up. I just had to miss the 16:30 Largs as there wasn’t any room to get on.

I feel like the Largs service is always majorly under capacitated. Most services are 3 car 380s which is never enough especially over the summer months.

The easiest way to solve that is put the 385s onto Gourock/Weymes Bay services to free up the 380s to then strengthen the Ayrshire services during the peaks. Ayr drivers don't currently sign 385s (may do so in the near future if the rumours are true). However, I don't think we have enough 385 3 cars to do that. I don't think there will be more units available once the 314s are gone. Ideally they should be looking at more 321 to 320 conversions if possible to strengthen the southside Strathclyde EMU fleet to allow the 380s and 385s to do the longer distance Lanark and Inverclydes.

I agree, Ardrossan Harbour tends to get more of the 4 car services I've noticed. Most of the day Largs has lots of 3 car services in a row.

I was thinking ScotRail could take the Northern 321/322 fleet that are going off lease, and convert them.

Yesterday I spent the day spotting at various locations and thought I would share my 385 sightings, if this is an inappropriate post or is in the wrong location please delete or move.

with today's announcement about wires to East Kilbride and Barrhead, does anyone know if the option for 10 more 385s is being exercised or do we need a fresh batch under a new procurement?

Where did get the announcement from? Also could of sworn I saw a reply on this discussion mentioning it would need a fresh order but who knows it might be exercised.

385s are just not suited to the Glasgow suburban routes, so whilst I really like them, I hope the opportunity is taken to design something better.

A compatible unit with 385s (for emergencies and standardisation purposes) but reconfigured for suburban operation. How about this: 5 car set (which would then fit into the Neilston turnback), with mix of seated areas and standing areas, and full width gangways in class 700 style? Could then replace the 318s and 320s over time too?

Concentrate the 385s on longer distance routes and get the 380s back on Ayrshire and Inverclyde services where they belong?

This seems to be a common view but before that is done, the seats need sorting - they are horrendous to sit in for 40 mins. I want the 318s back on the Lanarks !

All very personal views, which I respect. Personally I find 320s very cramped in layout and a bit claustrophobic and in a 318 the seats are ridiculously low compared to the windows.

Each to their own. I’d take a 314 over all of them. And before that a refurbished 303 which were probably the best of the lot.
