Bradford to Whitby Northern only trains.

Hi everyone,
Have received 2 free tickets from Northern as part of my delay repay claim.
They are return tickets from any Northern station to another using Northern rail services only.
My question is this.
Could I in theory travel from Bradford to Whitby via Carlisle and Newcastle?
If there were Northern services running between York and Darlington/Middlesbrough I would obviously use that route.
Any advice would be very grateful indeed.

Not just in theory, but in practise too. The reports we have had on this forum have pointed out that free Northern tickets are accepted without difficulty on this and similar journeys.

It will be no problem.

Northern conductors are so shamed by their service that they give those who have had their journeys and lives disrupted a free ticket to ride.

Cheers for the feedback guys.It will take all day but I've never done the Tyne or Esk Valley lines,and I get the Settle to Carlisle thrown in too!

Unless you get the 05.29 from Shipley to Carlisle (no connection at Shipley from Bradford) then you can’t get to Whitby and back, via Carlisle and Newcastle, on the same day.

I will be staying over for a few nights so getting back wont be a problem. It will beat getting on the Ghostliner bus from Leeds to Whitby. I did the trip a few years ago. Never again!

I've certainly used one of their £10 promotional day tickets to travel from Newcastle to Chester via Carlisle and Bradford. No issues.

Your ticket will be accepted without question.

Just bear in mind that at least one of your trains, somewhere, will be cancelled, so have a Plan B.
