Hi guys, I wanted to just query something about a job application.

I applied for a Virgin Trains job in July. Not heard anything for a few weeks but on Monday of last week I went to stay in Wales for a week. The signal on my phone was none existent so I could read my e-mails and to be honest I was looking at just getting a way from it all.

Unfortunately, Virgin Trains contacted me via email on Tuesday inviting me for a live interview. Unfortunately I don't own things like spike a live video technology so I could do the live interview anyway.

As I returned yesterday and got the email which had a deadline of Saturday 31st August 2019, which is two ago. I then replied to the link and it allow to comment on the reasons for not accepting the invitation and that I didn't own any on line facilities.

Does that mean I lost the opportunity to apply for the job just to bad timing and luck or will Virgin take this into account?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

It's the railway, timing is everything...

I would suggest you contact someone in their HR for an answer, here probably isnt the best place.

The fact that you replied to their email shows you do have access to online facilities, and if you wanted the job, you would make the effort to have access to whatever you needed to give yourself a chance in getting the job. As you will already know, jobs on the railway are generally oversubscribed, so The likelihood is you’ll have to wait to re-apply! Best of luck.

Personally think you lost your chance. Sorry to say Virgin will all ready be half way through the process of picking out candidates for the next round of interviews.
Good luck applying for future reference.

Most jobs on the railway will involve you competing an online assessment . Worth you ringing HR to query .

Hi actually tried getting a number for Virgins HR but give up after going round in circles. I think they are based in Crewe somewhere. I've written the job off as they will not even exist December. The link is for some online interview.

Believe it or not I had another email from Cross Country last week to do an online test but they only gave me a 48 hour window to complete it which was long gone by the time I returned home.

Talk about a double blow! I've actually now just written both jobs off. Of all the weeks to take a well earned holiday!!!

Did you not have access to emails on holiday? In terms of the other tech required to have online interviews etc, it’s usually a simple app download which is free. You’ll find a lot of companies recruit this way these days so you may want to invest if you need to (if you don’t have a laptop and only a tablet for example as it’s often easier with a proper PC/laptop).

It was slap bang in the centre of the rolling Welsh hills. Unfortunately there is no internet access other than a traditional line lane. It was a perfect place just to get away from normality which I needed after some personal problems at home. I honestly thought a week would be just long enough to touch base on my return and play catch up.
