Hi all,
I bought a 16-17 saver railcard just over a week ago now. At the weekend, I tried to buy a season ticket online. Here I discovered that I would need a photocard number and would have to obtain a photocard from my local railway station. So I went to the station to get a photocard. However, the people in the booth said that instead of them making a photocard for me, I could just use the numberID of my 16-17 railcard as a photonumber as this already had my photo on. So I went home to find that the numberID on my railcard was too many characters for a photocard number. I went back to the station and they said I should try using the last 8 digits of the railcard. Looking online it showed that other people who have bought season tickets with the 16-17 railcard have photocards.

Basically, I am very confused about how to buy a season ticket using the 16-17 railcard and I would appreciate if anyone could help me and tell me what I need to do to buy the season ticket.
Thanks.

Although your 16-17 Saver card has a serial number, this should not be used as a photocard number for season tickets. If you are purchasing a paper season ticket, then you will still require a normal season photocard. (This is similar for Job Centre Plus discounted season tickets too) If you get a season photocard from your local station, they may be able to reprint your season with the new photocard number. It's a shame your local station staff were unaware when you spoke to them.

The OP doesn't seem to have bought the season ticket yet, so changing it won't be necessary. \

For the OP: you can get both the photocard and a season ticket at the station, the cost will be the same as online. You will need a passport sized photo for the photocard.

You need a pink season ticket photocard for a season ticket, even if you have a discount entitlement with a photograph on it.

Heaven only knows why the requirement for a season ticket photocard is not mentioned on the 16-17 Saver website or T&Cs. The greater majority of 16 year olds won't have one already and it requires a passport sized photograph to be brought to the station so some prior warning would be appropriate. Quite a lot of stations don't have a photo booth.

Ticket office staff are still in the process of hearing about and learning about this product and it will take time for the correct knowledge to be obtained and offered in some places.
