Only 9 diagrams out today and only one refurbished set. Really not that great at the moment.

I'm not beginning to feel confident that I'll get a refurbished Inter7city HST by April / May in around 7 or 8 months time (I'm autistic so apologies). I'll be in First Class.

I know if say I catch the 07:30ish from Edinburgh to Aberdeen and it's a 'classic' HST then of course I'll still be pleased to have made my first trip north of Edinburgh on an HST but I'd rather the exterior made me feel more like I'm in the Scotrail era if that makes sense.

I've forgotten what online news paper I looked at just now regarding HST's not running to Inverness til May 2020 but it does sound like Scotrail / Wabtec are really struggling to get refurbished HST's out.

Given the comments on here about it, why I'm I sensing the HST refurbishment programme is progressing at 1mph?

Edinburgh to Aberdeen is your best bet , check scotrail twitter . HSTs are running to Inverness .
No need to apologise .

At least one refurb out and about today. Passed north through Dundee about 30 minutes ago.

I was genuinely wondering how difficult managing the stock shunting at Haymarket Depot must be now.

Presuming generally roads are not long enough to keep a set formed when all parts at serviced (coaches and PCs)?

I can't imagine coach ends being left open to the elements for extended periods does them any good either

Sent my eldest on the train to Glasgow tonight. It was like 1995. No HSTs in sight, 158s and 170s.

Well done ScotRail.

Pretty much every Aberdeen to Glasgow service appears to be a 170 today - why are we in this situation now? Scotrail just seem to no longer care about attempting to provide any level of service north of the central belt.

Aberdeen to Glasgow was running about 75% HST coverage in jan/feb so with extra sets leased and more refurbs back this shouldn’t be the case if the company was managed properly

I am guessing that it's down to trying to introduce trains that are less reliable than those which preceded them. And awful project management.

They are lucky to have the 170s which are clearly a more reliable train than the HSTs. They must be getting thrashed though right now.

Am I to assume based on the above that the 1946 Dundee-Queen Street (1838 ex-Aberdeen) will likely be a 170 this evening?

As much as I prefer HSTs in general, I do prefer the horizontal bike racks on the 170s so won’t be too disappointed to see a substitution.

An unexpected surprise - the 1946 from Dundee to Glasgow is a refurb HST. I noticed the platform display saying 4 carriages but that could still have been 2x158.

However, the cycle storage is woefully inadequate. I got mine in OK but someone who got on after me couldn’t make their bike fit at all. I shifted mine about but ultimately it was the size of the wheel vs the space above the hook. It simply didn’t fit.

He’s only going as far as Perth so he’s happy to just stand in the vestibule. But this isn’t sustainable long term.

Do we know how well the GWR Castle class refurbished HSTs are doing compared to the Scotrail 7Cities HSTs?

I've not seen either of them myself yet.

I was up in Montrose for the football yesterday - both the 11:37 from Queen Street and the 17:12 from Montrose were single 170s. On the way up it was standing room only to Perth where a lot of people got off (the All Under One Banner march was on) but were replaced by a large number of passengers and it was standing room only again until Dundee.

On the way back it was standing room only with the aisles full of people between Dundee and Glasgow.

My eldest is on the Queen Street to Elgin train. Real time trains says HST. When I pick her up I can verify.

Don’t know if this is related, but it’s been reported on another forum that a problem with the Wheel Slide Protection equipment is likely to reduce the number of ScotRail HSTs able to run for the next few months.

A classic HST pulled into Inverness while meeting someone for coffee in the Costa at the station late afternoon - not sure if it came from the South or East but looked like it had been very busy!

If the HST program does eventually come together then I fear it might be a victim of its own success as I suspect there is strongly suppressed demand - I drove a few trips that I’d otherwise have taken the train for after some absurdly overloaded trips on both the WHL and HML.

Get the 1st class offering and price right it could be even more so, travelling on the Chieftain on a 1st class advance can be great value and several hours productive time instead of down time.

Power car or trailer WSP, or both?

Don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's related to the removal of the ATP speedometer (on the theory that ATP interfaces with both speed sensing and power/braking systems).

I have a trip planned at the end if the week to catch highland main line HST's. Can anyone advise which diagrams are actually being fulfilled regularly as HST's from/to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
A Scotrail HST watch week would be good.

It was today also. One HST at Platform 3 when the Glasgow 170 arrived and what looked like bits of three sets in the yard.

Real shame first Sunday since line reopened from Aberdeen closure that was a HST bloody going backwards again

0834 Edinburgh to Inverness
0707 Glasgow to Inverness
1209 Glasgow to Inverness
1248 Inverness to Edinburgh
1739 Edinburgh to Inverness

There are specific threads for these requests - https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/scotrail-hst-diagrams.191086/ being one of them.

Any link to where I can find discussion of this cause if so then this is an absolute embarrassment to the franchise

According to ScotRail Journey Check there seems to be several short-formed trains on the Aberdeen/Inverness - Edinburgh/Glasgow services today. 09:44 Inverness to Edinburgh looks to be worked by a single 158.
