Probably mentioned before, but this fare is staggeringly poor value, even on Oyster. There is no railcard discount in the evening peak on the Oyster fare, even though the paper version does have an off peak version which is cheaper.

Without the capping it is quickly gets really expensive. eg: Stratford Intl to say Baker Street is £17/day via HS1 and tube (instead of a very long DLR+jubilee journey) on Oyster - which is basically the same price as a Zone 9 daily cap (plus zone 9 has the benefit of potentially being cheaper via weekly, monthly an annual discounts).

Is there any chance the fares might be rethought on this line?

The only review you'll get will an an upwards one. There's no way they'll move Stratford International into the Zones.

You're best getting the 'classic route'.

I wouldn't bank on it. It's not really designed to carry huge numbers of people between London and Stratford and the fares are probably set at the level they are to discourage a large percentage of that market from using the route.

I doubt it - they don't want the trains full and standing with passengers only going between St Pancras and Stratford International

Often as many people get on/get off at Stratford intl, so I don't think it should alter capacity that much.

Really what would be ideal is a higher daily cap for the service. Say £10-£12 if you take HS1 instead of £7 for the day.

I think it would massively alter capacity. If It was a similar price to the Tube or National Rail from the domestic station, there would be many more people travelling on that line. 7 minutes to St Pancras is very appealing compared to the line into Liverpool Street or the Central Line.

High Speed trains are now often unbearably busy in the peaks leaving London. I doubt Southeastern would want trains packed full of people going to Stratford, leaving people for Kent behind.

That's intentional; it's designed to price people off it, so that there is sufficient capacity for people travelling from further afield, without the trains becoming so crush loaded that the "premium" aspect of the service isn't negated.

Yes, they may go higher.

Southeastern and the DfT will note these comments and feel satisfied that therefore the balance is right as it is!

Sorry, I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, and I am not really a fan of the pricing on this route; I don't like high fares either, but the above is my honest assessment.

It's 5 minutes from Stratford regional to Liverpool Street.

Actually it's between 9-12 minutes on Greater Anglia, and about 9 minutes on the Central Line.

Secondly, getting to the Kings Cross area, and many areas around it, which have become increasingly popular areas for commuting to, would be much less convenient via Liverpool Street.

The TfL rail service (to Gidea Park / Shenfield) is the quickest at about 6.5 mins. How much faster it will be under Crossrail remains to be seen.

As far as Kings Cross area itself is concerned, Crossrail won't complerely solve the travelling time difference, but connections to lines north of KGX & STP will be much easier by changing at Farringdon.

When the route opened it was always intended to include a "supplement" for the high speed element by the DfT despite the short journey .

Yes avoid if possible to the high cost and travel via the classic route via Liverpool Street.
I reckon that time wise there will be only marginal difference between the two routes if say you were at Westfield in Stratford besides the M&S store and finishing your journey at Kings Cross/St. Pancras near to the British library.
