Hey guys, I've got my pts assessment next week. I’ve been watching YouTube videos and reading through the booklets provided by my trainer but just wondered if anyone had any links to info or quizzes they found useful for revision please?

Thanks

Have you tried something simple. Like, er, reading the rulebook ? or the PTS manual from the Network Rail website ?

As I stated in my original post; IVE BEEN READING THE BOOKLETS GIVEN BY MY TRAINER...so yes I have read the rule book and the pts information...I just wondered if anyone had found any other sites useful for testing their knowledge etc

Not really any need for the attitude in your response.

Not an attitude, just stupidly obvious. PTS isn't hard and is very very basic. The rulebook is what you need to learn so why not just read that ? Anything un-official I would NEVER recommend.

Oh and 'booklets' aren't 'Rulebook'

https://catalogues.rssb.co.uk/railw...er:g1*) OR rgsolDocumentInternalNumber:"g1*")

If that helps. PTS is quite easy. You should be fine.

[Yes, some people do seem to have an attitude, it's not great]

If I hadn't got to b a train driver, I would choose Trackwork. Good luck, I envy you somewhat

This is my first week so I apologise if I haven’t used the correct terminology...they gave us the rule book broken up in a series of booklets so I referred to them as booklets

I’ve never done PTS so I wouldn’t know that it isn’t hard or is very basic, like I said it’s my first week, I just want to do well so I asked on here for advice. Maybe next time you could just say that u wouldn’t recommend anything unofficial and to just use the rule book as that’s all il need instead of trying to mock people and put them down.

Like I said, I’ve read the rule book, just wanted to know if there was any more info out there because I want to succeed in my new role.

There is so much crap out there you can get swamped with mis information and often wrong information. What has been said so many times on this forum is that you should stick to what is given you and never 'read ahead' or start trying to find information from un-official sources.

There is a very good document from Network Rail specifically for PTS

Feel free to be aggrieved as to how or what I said but your being overly sensitive. Nobody is being mocked or put down. The best advice is to read what is given and stick to the rulebook. If you don't understand it then try to seek clarification from those who are teaching you or would be assessing you.

I had to do a Sentinel PTS a few years ago and there was a pre-course test. If you don't pass that you're sent away, so just have that in mind. As long as you read and take in the notes provided you should be fine though.

Advising someone to maybe do the most simple and basic task of reading the rulebook is 'attitude' LOL !!!!

If they think this is attitude, they're going to have a culture shock the first time they walk in to a messroom!

This response would have been much more appreciated than the one u originally gave. I’ve not seen on here that I shouldn’t look for outside info. Tbh I only read threads relevant to the stage I’ve been at or ones that I feel I can contribute to. Haven’t seen anything about pts on here which is why I posted. When I’ve studied before I’m used to using all possible resources to find as much information as I can about the subject matter so I guess il have to change my approach moving forward.

I’ve read the relevant parts of the rule book, I guess as I progress it will make more sense because I’m not used to a lot of the terms and that. Thanks

That kind of attitude is a little different to someone asking for help and getting a ‘you’re dumb’ kind of response when the person asking is inexperienced in the industry. Plus over text u can’t gauge the persons tone so things get misread and misunderstood.

I used to be a bus driver and I’m sure train driver mess room banter won’t be that much different to a bus garages!!

I know a lot of bus drivers who are now train drivers. Don't be shy to apply.

Just look at Module G1 of the rulebook, which will be the booklet you’ve been supplied more than likely. PTS is 90% multiple choice and is really simple. I’m sure you’ll be fine. Admittedly you may have had some extra booklets if you’re going to be doing track work, however the fundamentals are the same across the board.

When I’ve studied before I’m used to using all possible resources to find as much information as I can about the subject matter so I guess il have to change my approach moving forward.

I've forgotten the number of times I have given the same advice over and over again. The people who are training you should ALWAYS be your first resource. That's their job. The internet is a dangerous place. Too much information and very little understanding is not good; especially on a place like 'The Railway' If you don't understand anything, always ask.

I’ve read the relevant parts of the rule book, I guess as I progress it will make more sense because I’m not used to a lot of the terms and that. Thanks

Everything takes time and it will all fit together eventually; even if it doesn't make sense now.

When I’ve studied before I’m used to using all possible resources to find as much information as I can about the subject matter so I guess i'll have to change my approach moving forward

I would strongly suggest looking into Non Technical Skills.

Plus over text u can’t gauge the persons tone so things get misread and misunderstood.

Which is why you inferred offense; rather than any implied.

Scef I just did mine last week and it really was nt that difficult. I made a few silly mistakes and still got 96% you ll be fine. Natural to be a bit apprehensive. Similarly the practical. it was, we all thought easier than the written assessment.

I'm literally days away from finishing my training. PTS is by far the simplest thing you'll need to learn and be assessed on. I really wouldn't worry about it. Like others have said, the rule book or any other training notes you've been given will do.

To be honest, you shouldn’t need any external resources for PTS.
The TOC you’re training with want you to get through and pass so they’ll have given you the best chance they can.
Just remember that the focus is always on safety so if you’re stuck, use common sense. Be sure to know your signs.
