In the post-privatization era was it possible to see HST's far from their usual stamping grounds? For example did GNER or Midland HST's ever work into Devon or Cornwall? Or Great Western (and its various permutations) to the North of England?

I'm not sure about MML sets but GNER sets were definitely hired in to work summer Saturday services to Devon and Cornwall.

I recall one post-privatisation morning at St Pancras when there were four sets in Midland Mainline, GNER, Virgin and Great Western livery but an ‘odd’ MML power car spoilt the effect. It wasn’t possible to get a photograph across the full spread of platforms. This was at a juncture when various sets were being swapped about, pending re-painting, rather than them necessarily all being on ‘loan’ or ‘hire’. I think that the occasion got a mention in RAIL at the time after I mentioned it to a regular contributor.

Midland Mainline lent a HST to First Great Western around 2007. I travelled in its First Class from Plymouth to London.

When I used to live in Reading (late 2000s), I remember seeing I believe Midland and possibly Virgin HSTs there. I wasn't as clued up about trains then as I am now otherwise I'd have paid more attention.

I remember getting an East Midlands HST from Peterborough to King's Cross around 2011.

There was a regular Virgin Crosscountry HST ECS move between Manchester and Leeds via Huddersfield, back in the day.

Quite often just the power cars too. For a while MML HSTs frequently went over to work from Piccadilly during 'Project Rio'.

Was it East Coast who had a FGW HST for a short while? Hard to keep up with which operator it was at the time!
