Bit of a random one but if I wanted to travel to the GCR for a day out, coming from Leeds down the M1, which station would be the quickest/easiest to get to? I had a brief look at a map and it looks like it may be Quorn? Or if I stay on the M1 is there one that’s quicker to get to?

Cheers!

Well Loughborough is further North and nearer the M1 even the same junction you'd use to access Quorn and Woodhouse as far as I can see

If coming by car to the GCR then Quorn & Woodhouse is the best bet as there is no parking at Loughborough Central unless you want to take pot luck finding a space on nearby side roads.

Getting across Loughborough from the M1 to the GCR is also a little tricky.

Come off the M1 at J23, head towards Loughborough town centre then right onto the ring road past the Uni. Then down into Quorn before turning right to head to the station.

usually for galas they use a field next to Quorn station which can hold a few hundred cars I always head there as it is the best one for parking

Another vote for Quorn, that’s the one I’ve parked at a couple of times now, Loughborough as said above doesn’t have any parking so is a bit of a pain

Quorn, without a doubt, whichever direction you're coming from. Loughborough is a nightmare for parking on any sort of busy day.

Likewise I always use Quorn too for the same reasons.

Great, thanks! I've realised it's a lot closer than I always thought (1.5hr rather than 2.5) so may well pay a visit soon.

It’s such a good railway Alex. You’ll really like it.

I parked up at Quorn on Saturday. No problems. Also, no queue at the ticket office in contrast to long queue at Loughborough.

Also, Google told me to go via Nanpantan and Woodhouse, thereby avoiding Loughborough completely. Which I ought to have thought of myself since I used to cycle that way!
