Wouldn't call it graffiti, it's merely a sticker placed on by a fan no doubt...
No no no... this is RailUK, if you don't threaten to string them up yourself you're basically encouraging them to do it! In fact it's as if you did the sticker yourself if you don't condemn it.

I see what you both mean. Fair do if it’s staff, I’m not so sure I agree if it’s enthusiasts that have put it there...

Emblems can add a bit of fun or style, not too sure this has either;)

I was on it York to Huddersfield liked it a lot suspension did seem to be working quite hard tho. Stuck behind stopper from Leeds so going slow. Loads of staff on board. No wifi.
pis just scrolling tpe service to lime street.
Could not see this famous clock with the wrong time on it.
It left Scarborough 18 late due to train crew being delayed.
I feel they Could take out at least 4 tables to make into airline rows. It was coach c that i was on.

Based on a situation I dealt with recently involving some creatively placed advertising leaflets on a 185, the law definitely sees this as graffiti and ergo, vandalism.

A 9A shed plate would look better. ;)

All the people complaining about too many tables. I take it that they are sitting in the coaches near to the Loco. I rode in the Driving Trailer last week and had the complete opposite impression.

Yes but it would be a miles better layout and would have better window alignment if some of the tables from the intermediate coaches were swapped with airline sets from the DT.

Difficult to see the logic for why they have been designed the way they have.

It exists! I heard one leaving Scarbs on Thursday, but this is the first time I’ve actually seen one. And it looks like it’s shortly going to be a TV star too.

Seriously unimpressed with this. Put simply - it is vandalism. Anybody who is caught modifying any part of any train will be at the mercy of BTP.

If people genuinely have an interest in trains and rolling stock they’ll know that it’s not funny. Instead of spending time maintaining the train, somebody now has to waste their efforts removing a stupid sticker which may or may not come off easily.

You wouldn’t want someone to put a bumper sticker on your brand new Jag, so why vandalise a new train?
I completely agree with you! It's a shame that others on here, including staff that I know work for TPE are saying it's not graffiti. Let's do the same to their cars and see how they like it.

I don't think anyone said it wasn't graffiti, just that it didn't look like your typical tag so wasn't necessarily intended to deface the locomotive. The 68s have Caterpillar engines so a subtle cat image is appropriate even if it isn't meant to be there. The white cab surrounds on Finsbury Park Deltics weren't official, but nobody in their right mind would call them graffiti.

Someone did... And they work for TPE
They said they wouldn't call it graffiti... they made no claim as to whether it was in fact graffiti. Other than it being a sticker, when graffiti is generally paint or marker. If my train was cancelled because a sticker was stuck on it, I'd be more angry with the person making the decision to cancel than I would with the person who stuck the sticker on.

If they'd stuck or scrawled a rude word or a big "meat & two veg" on it you'd have a point, but not a little cat sticker.

Think you need to be careful here. Just because someone works for the company does not mean they are speaking on behalf of TPE.

The opinion they put forward was their own and carries no more weight than anyone else's opinion.

Saw this leaving Vic this afternoon, noisy going up the hill away from the station and looks a little odd when the 68 is at the rear!

I suspect most people would, in the grand scheme of things, rate this as being little worse than the many, many unofficial namings that took place under BR. I believe the BRB viewed them as akin to graffiti too, though many went on to become very well known. Myself I wouldn't want to see it encouraged in any way, but neither would I want to see anyone come down on the 'perp' like a tonne of bricks.

I prefer the 68 cat to the Tinsley snail.

Do we know if it was a depot wag or an over-eager crank who was behind the defilement?

I think the white cabs on the Deltics were a different case. They were ‘unofficial’ in that initially they were not sanctioned by the British Rail Board, they did get the ok from the Finsbury Park depot manager.

Myself I wouldn't want to see it encouraged in any way, but neither would I want to see anyone come down on the 'perp' like a tonne of bricks.
Agree with all you’ve put there.

68015 already has the same garbage on the side, this looks like a ‘copycat’ incident;)

It’s not Depot staff for sure, the loco was stood in York station all weekend.

I totally agree with that.

Here's some from the past. Official, unofficial depot emblems.

I hope TPE management see sense and come up with there own emblem via there staff.

With the risk of going off subject a little.
Longsight eagle.

Certainly better than a "Victoria Vulture".
Newton Heath had a Witch on a broomstick!

OK back to Mk5a sets....

Does anybody know how long it is between exams on the Mk5a sets, and obviously different to the Class 68.

Just wondering why it's been 68027 and set TP09 all the time together? Thought other 68s would have been rotated and used by now.

No, I believe the plan originally was for locos to stay attached to sets except in the case of major overhauls. There won't be the frequent chopping and changing you would see on, for example, HSTs and 91/mk4 sets.
